How are you guys getting open xr to work with the pico 4? I can't get it to recognise my headset after i open it

I had to follow the 'per app' installation guidelines, i.e. manually replacing the two *.dll files as per the instructions on the OpenXR website (I can post here, if you need).

Has to be re-done after each game update, because the updates replace the *.dll files with the defaults, but it works.

After lots of messing around, I've ended up using CAS rather than FSR, and I'm finally happy with how the Pico 4 looks and plays with VD.

Btw OpenXRNeckSafer does not work for me - as soon as I enable it, missions will not open and there's an error message.

Shame, because it is, well, a neck saver...

Thanks.

I've tried it, but the Autorotation is stepwise rather than smooth, and I just can't get on with it. Makes me feel weird!

If you use VD try using virtual desktop XR. This bypasses steam VR and XR necksafer works. It's in beta release at the moment.

That sounds excellent, thank you, @Qcumber! Very kind of you.

Now, I'm probably being stupid, but I have downloaded and installed XR Runtime Picker for OpenXR as per the instructions for VirtualDesktop-OpenXR on GitHub.

I have then downloaded VirtualDesktop-OpenXR, but I can't see how to install it.

I've also tried using "Browse for manifest" in XR Runtime Picker for OpenXR, but I can't work out which file I'm looking for in the VirtualDesktop-OpenXR package.

Consequently in XR Runtime Picker for OpenXR I only have the SteamVR and WMR options and not VirtualDesktopXR.

Any ideas, please?

Would someone mind having a look at my settings and telling my how i might improve them please? https://imgur.com/a/ztAE4uD

I have a 5900x, 2080ti, 32gb 3600 ddr4. VD High, HEVC, 150mbps, ssw off, snapdragon on. I'm kinda happy with the what i can see except it's kinda blurry, but i know i'm chasing the dragon. I just want some more frames for multiplayer.

The download from discord should be an exe file so sould install to your c drive.  https://discord.com/channels/933220354401398785/950124149538447360/1161933321199177819

Apparently this will be added to the next version of VD as an option.

Thanks @Qcumber.

That link doesn't work for some reason, and I can't see what the channel is to join it on Discord.

Do you have another link to the .exe by any chance, please? I can't find it on the GitHub page.

Holy cow!

this VDXR is way better than the steam runtime.

Ans it works with XRNECKSAVER.

the people at VD are working for there money!

Are we still using OpenComposite with VDXR?

Can someone quickly explain their set up using while using the VD beta?

I use the per-game installation, which I believe you have to use with the Pico 4 to get OXRTK features (OpenComposite Switcher doesn't work with Pico/VD unfortunately):

https://mbucchia.github.io/OpenXR-Toolkit/opencomposite#alternative-the-per-game-install

Works well with VD in VDXR mode (beta), although I'm getting some flickering, which I didn't have before.

Advantage of new VDXR more for me is that XRNeckSafer now works with the Pico 4 and VD.

I'm guessing that, if you're not interested in using OXRTK, you could probably by-pass the per-game installation, and IL2 would still run in OpenXR using VD's new VDXR mode, but I'm not sure.

Cheers mate.

Yes that makes sense. I'm still using open composite too.

Seems all fine.

Off topic, I did try out again h.264+ at 400mbs. I still get the same ghosting and screen jitters (only when moving head quickly) so despite it looking sharp I may go back to HVAC 10bit.

Anyone running this headset with the cable?

I tried it using the Pico Streaming Assistant and a purchased cable, but it's just not as good quality graphics-wise as with VD imo.

I do. With VD. Using Gnirehtet-run.cmd

I’m not sure if this has been reported already but I have found that using VDXR and open composite I can get the steam version of IL-2 to run without needing steam VR.

Do I still need OpenComposite at all if I have VirtualDesktop (with OpenXR runtime) and want to use OpenXR Toolkit, XRNecksafer in IL-2GB with my PIco 4?

Thanks.

No, you don't.

You may have to follow the per-application OXRTK installation steps though.

I'm not sure what you mean by the per-application OXRTK installation steps. There is per-game installation of OpenComposite, but no per-game OXRTK installation as such, and you said I woudn't need OpenComposite for my needs because of the OpenXR runtime available now in Virtual Desktop. Could you clarify what exactly you meant by "the per-application OXRTK installation steps".

Thanks.

Or did you mean to drop openvr_api.dll in  \\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\bin\game and \\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\bin\viewer ?

Yes, sorry for not being clear - that is precisely what I meant.

Are you sure? I think you need to use OpenComposite to run OpenVR game through OpenXR runtime. VD just support XR but do not replace the old metod.

Btw if you are reffing to copying per-game instation you are using OpenComposite.

So many different terms!

What I mean is that you can't use the OpenComposite Switcher with VD. This was useful in being able to easily switch between OpenVR and OpenXR runtimes.

For that reason (I think) you have to do the per-application changes that Sabrefly referenced above.

Ultimately I run VD with VDXR as the OpenXR Runtime, OXRTK enabled via the OXRTK Companion App, and the appropriate openvr_api.dlls replacing the defaults in  \\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\bin\game and \\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\bin\viewer.

Yes , we do not use system wide switcher but per game installation. You are right OpenVR is  SteamVR .

I should note that the stock IL-2's openvr_api.dll works seamlessly with VDXR runtime and the OpenXR in-game settings. However, I need to verify whether it is compatible with XRNeckSafer. This compatibility is the only potential reason I might choose not to use it

Russkly, could you share the rest of your current settings, or are they the same excepto for CAS vs FSR?

Thanks.

Good to know, thanks.

So, no longer need to replace the openvr_api.dlls after each IL2 update then?

Is there a way to permanently adjust my defalt POV (seat) in the cockpit a little forward towards the dashboard?

Thanks.

PS: That was easy - enter the game without VR/TIR, adjust the POV to your liking, save with F10, exit.

Sure you can do it in 2D or in VR , with or without trackIR. When with trackIR you need to hold 5 num pad key. In VR move , hold and press save.

Do you mean save F10 by defualt? The problem in VR is that I can't move my POV while in VR or TIR, unlike when they are off. I can manipulate POV up/down, left/right, then save it with F10 and exit to turn on VR.

Thanks.
