Not a chance I'm going to buy this if it can't be added on to MSFS 2020...

I'm guessing it'll be an expansion or massive upgrade.  Regardless, the ASOBO leadership and devs aren't camera shy and I have full confidence they'll address it fully in the next live Q&A stream in a couple weeks.  Even if it's a full separate game, I'm getting it, these guys have earned my trust and my dollar.

I may pass. I am fed up with tweaking settings. And this is a prime example on how to get a 10 k computer.
I hope I resist

And I ask, why?
Is there going to be a msfs 28?
you buy all these addons , build a scenario. Then suddenly it is out dated. Just dump

it.

I much rather „buy the sim again“ every four years (and get new stuff NOBODY cared to do so far but we do like) than being held hostage in a subscribtion scheme. There, I would pass. Abd who says you‘ll have to tweak something besides what you tweak already?

There hasn‘t been a MS Flightsim (and I have played them since they came on a bootable 5 1/4 floppy) where I tweaked less than I did with MSFS2020. In the early days, we tweaked the highmem.sys, not gfx, but essentially it was the same spiel.

I am trying real hard to remember which one of them, but iirc there was one new msfs that incorporated all the content of the previous one, it was more like an update really. Now, exacly which one? There was a decade there where every two years there was a new one: FS98, then 2000, then 2002, then 2004, then FSX which was in 2006.

Maybe we're seeing it all happen again, a backwards compatible MSFS which is just "branded" as a totally new thing.

It's a brand new title:

If so, I know some will be upset or disappointed.  But as for me... I'll be purchasing it regardless.  MSFS 2020 has been genre defining and I'm a fan of the team and what they've been doing and how they've communicated that across the board.  So for me, this meme is finally appropriate:

Ah sorry I had checked this thread but did not see there was a new one Luke had already started. My bad.

When I posted about an hour ago, I would have sworn it was in the MSFS 2020 thread, not the 24 one, but something doesn’t make sense when I read the brief conversation again.  Senility I guess. Stop mashing all these threads together with your merge purge, LukeFF!

https://www.flightsimulator.com/microsoft-flight-simulator-2024-faq/

Will Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 be a completely standalone sequel, or will it also be offered as a paid update for existing players?

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is a standalone simulator and the next-generation sequel to Microsoft Flight Simulator that launched in 2020. Current aircraft and airports that are in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020), as well as virtually all Marketplace add-ons, will be supported in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

What kind of support can Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) players expect to see once Flight Simulator 2024 has been released?

We will continue to deliver our Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) Roadmap which has content ranging from Aircraft and Avionics Updates, Sim Updates, City and World Updates, and also the free Dune DLC. We will continue to support Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) post the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launch.

Will all purchases users have made from the Marketplace be transferrable to the new simulator?

With very few exceptions, virtually all add-ons that work in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) today will function in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Add-ons that were purchased from the in-simulator Marketplace will not need to be re-purchased in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

Clear answers. ?

I have not said that

I say I hope I manage to not buy it. At least until I get a new computer.
Besides that eye candy is one thing. But currently choppers is just rubbish in 20 version. How they fly in 24 will to me make a difference.

My next build I had already planned to do in early 2024 so that is convenient. Combat will always be my first love though so not sure I will even get this one again. DCS keeps me quite busy as it is.

They now have missions. But no combat missions, not even weapons.

IMHO DCS and IL-2 is still not ... in any danger.

Well, it's definitely good to see that purchased aircraft/addons from the marketplace *should* work with 2024.

I don't even mind that it is being billed as a stand-alone game, however, what annoys me was Microsoft stating that MSFS 2020 was to be a 10 year project with 10 years continued development and support. Now, technically they appear to be continuing that support of 2020 as per their initial pledge... so I suppose the joke is on many of us to have believed that they would be adding on to MSFS 2020 until MSFS 2030 released.

Really interested in aerial firefighting and a lot could be done with it. If they add Smoke Jumpers, realistic fire spread/propagation, and communication with ground fire crews, (Though I doubt Asobo will make it that detailed) they could make it a pretty intense experience... especially if you're getting a Mayday radio call from a group of firefighters who have been surrounded by fire due to wind shift.

Will definitely keep my eye on its development, if there's a fully-fledged "career" mode instead of just pre-canned missions, I may just get it...

Glad for all those that are going to leap in, but I don't play the 2020 version often enough to buy it again, and no, I don't do civilian 'missions' either... if I want missions it has to be in a war setting for me.

I'm very excited for the search and rescue missions, helicopter cargo transport, air ambulance and mountain rescue. But as a huge helicopter fan, I was pretty disappointed in their implementation of their much pumped helicopter flight model. I found it way too arcade and not very convincing. Hopefully this new engine will be better but I'm pretty pensive at the moment.

I also hope these are actual career modes, and not just individual scenarios with static objectives, etc.

I'm afraid I have to agree here at least somewhat...  I have 141 hrs time according to Steam, I have flown MAX 20-30hrs in short sightseeings, so I've been updating it MORE than hundred hours!

Kind of the same thing for me. But I use all sims just for a 30 minuets flight without weapons.
With this in mind I will not renew my pc nor buy another sim. It need to be something special. That fire bombing did look fun

Tedious. Have they nuked the fridge? For really serious simmers only. And that includes me out.

Honestly really excited for this, Having seen the HUGE improvements to AI over the past few years since 2020, I expect this game to be a really big jump. So far the trailer does not disappoint! MSFS was already genre leading and this looks like it'll push the lead even further.

IL-2 and DCS will need to try real hard to keep up.

I was pretty proud of myself for learning certain planes in depth, like the PMDG planes back in FSX.  But once you are actually competent enough to fly them with a semblance of realism, it can be really boring.  Like Autopilot engaged, take a two hour nap, boring.  So I never got MSFS 2020.  I’d never want to be an airline pilot in real life!  But helicopters in DCS, are a really cool thing because you can do all kinds of interesting tasks without having to be at war.  So the SAR helicopter stuff in the trailer really piqued my interest.

Graphics are great in FS2020 but the FMs are very simple, I got bored quickly, I only use it to fly to places I have never been to and I am planning to visit in my plane in real life, their scenery is really impressive, and accurate.

I have not touched it in over 6 months though.

FS2024 , might be better, now that they hire real pilots to test their FMs.

The missions have my attention, especially the fire fighting and rescue missions.  I wonder if these will all in be in one "aviation career" as single mission challenges or will it be more fleshed out with several different career options with several missions in each.  Definitely looking forward to the next Q&A!

It already have sar and

firefighting but nothing like that video and vert tedious finding right settings. And choppers feel more like drones. I will look closely on how choppers will be.
I have had so many problems getting msfs to work and now it crash for no apparent reason. I am tired of reinstalling and looking for reasons

If you have an NVIDIA GPU, update the driver. There was a recent problem with a series of driver versions that resulted in crashes and stuttering.

A Melange high will heighten the senses so you're liable to be more picky with the FM.
