KylerHolland Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 (edited) Hi! So, I decided to play career mode as a fighter Bf-109. There was a mission where I had to attack bombers. Right from the start I noticed a stuttering. You know, like when you play a game with 10-15 frames per second. My fps counter was showing 80 fps though. I had a bizarre feeling like in-game time is slowed down. This is not the first time I noticed this. About a year ago I had the same experience. This stuttering effect only happens during big missions with many airplanes involved, especially bombers. It never happens when I play online, even when the server is full. My PC is Ryzen 3960x, 64gb or RAM, 2080 Ti. Win 11 64 bit. Have you guys ever encounter the same issue? Edited June 7, 2023 by KylerHolland
AEthelraedUnraed Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 Yeah, it's a well-known issue. Search for "time dilation". It happens if there's lots of AI units (both air and ground) around. Change the career density settings to improve it a bit. 1
KylerHolland Posted June 7, 2023 Author Posted June 7, 2023 This is quite sad. I can't believe developers haven't fixed it yet.

They've made the decision to have fully realistic/functional AI and physics for all vehicles/aircraft at all times, at the cost of more processing power needed. As such, there isn't really much to "fix" since it isn't broken. Whether their design choice is a good decision is up for debate - I think it is not - but it's the decision they've made and unless they make a u-turn on this, there isn't much to improve, really. Note that the problem gets much less prevalent if you've got better hardware (especially CPU). I've seen a video with 60(?) C-47s all dropping paratroopers, and no time dilation at all. Your CPU seems decent, but mainly because of its multi-cored performance. For IL2, the single-threaded performance is much more important (note that contrary to what some people say, IL2 is NOT single-threaded), and there your CPU ranks rather average. Depending on how much money you can/want to spend on it, upgrading your CPU may be an option. Edited June 7, 2023 by AEthelraedUnraed 1
I./JG52_Woutwocampe Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 When you look at the AI overall and how it behaves, no, this design choice wasnt the good one at all in my opinion. 1
FuriousMeow Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 The Zen1 and 2 CPUs also have higher inter-core latency due to their design. The Zen3 CPUs improved that significantly. I'm not sure if the 5800X3D improves even more, but with the extra cache that helps out in games in general. With Zen3 the AMD CPUs became significantly better for gaming. 1
SharpeXB Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 (edited) I had this problem where I was getting 115 FPS and yet it felt like I was getting 3 or 4, like the game was just freezing. I unloaded the only mods I have installed; the correct historical awards and the Haluter Skin Downloader. Now all is well. Not sure which of those mods was the trouble. My guess is the historical awards one. Edited June 11, 2023 by SharpeXB
