DFLion_The Big Show_1943_’The Munsterland Business’

Pierre Clostermann and his fellow French pilot Jacques had been recently posted from 341 Squadron to 602 Squadron. They had lost their Spitfire IXc’s and were now flying ‘clipped winged Spitfire Vb’s, which they affectionately called ‘clipped, cropped and clapped’!

The German ‘blockade runner’ MV Munsterland had arrived in Cherbourg Harbour from Japan, loaded with precious metals and latex to bolster the German war effort – the Allies had designated her a major target to destroy.

Clostermann’s 602 Squadron was drawn into the upcoming mission, along with 132 Squadron, to bolster the Spitfire numbers to 90. Their main task was to silence the flak ships situated outside and within the Harbour, then ‘take-on’ any German fighters that appear, while the Typhoons bomb the Munsterland!

Mission notes: The mission is working well, though 1 Spitfire (LO-Q, third ‘vic’) behaves erratically on take-off, then ‘wright’s’ itself (I would be pleased if somebody could tell me how to fix this?). The other problem is getting the ‘flak ships’ to fire back effectively? – though, once over the Harbour there is plenty of ground flak and Focke-Wulfs to contend with! (you manually attack the flak ships, so keep a sharp look out for them)

Just a quick message for ‘Han’ and the team, it would be great if you could program another option for the Spitfire VB, to give it ‘clipped wings’. The RAF used this version of the Spitfire in many numbers at the time.

Good Luck?
