Pilot Career, subordinate AI attack enemy without announcing anything on radio.

I've been enjoying the pilot career, however when I'm leading the flight the AI seem to engage enemy aircraft without telling me anything. They don't even announce the enemy on the radio.

I was flying a nice patrol in formation with my other three wingmen. We were all trimmed nicely and flying along. After admiring the formation, I scanned the horizon, but when I looked back none of my wingmen were there! After some more scanning I saw that they were in a furball with the enemy. No one announced spotting enemy aircraft, no one told me they were breaking off to engage, nothing, nada.

I've had some missions where there are other flights, and their flight leader announces enemy over the radio, but my wingmen never say a word.

Is this a bug? It's completely immersion killing. One minute I'm flying with three wingmen, the next I'm cruising away from a fight by myself with no idea what's going on. Please help!

Call me naiive, but I'd have expected to hear some announce "Bandits, 2 o clock high" or something, and then "I'm engaging". I think this was how it worked on the old school il2 1946 right?

Sometimes they'll say something like "Stork 2, engaging fighters to the northwest low, 5 kilometers," but not always. The lack of consistent AI callouts as in 1946 is still a problem. What I do is use the map with icons turned on, so it shows the positions of friendly and enemy planes, as a replacement for the information I should be getting from my wingmen--information like "we're engaging bandits" or "there's a Messerschmitt on your tail."

Were you flying russian ?

It's most likely a bug really, but if you're flying pre 1944 planes, for you own immersion you can remember that only the flight lead was able to emit most of the time, subordinates could only receive.

Ofc, if you fly a lend lease, or a Yak9T or a La5FN, or western front or german, it's quite unlikely all your wingmen have deficient radios, so you'll have to get either pilots or mechanics by a firesquad. ?

I've noticed this as well. Along with issuing radio commands and nothing happens. Then a few minutes later it works again, perhaps after the dogfight is done.

I usually find that issuing the " cover me " command helps keep your flight together ,  then when in range of enemy aircraft,  i issue the  " attack nearest air target " command.  This works a treat 99% of the time ?

Or , you could have too many of these guys..............

The main issue I have is that my pilot constantly calls out which aircraft I am attacking in his opinion, while my squadmates are quiet. I don't want my pilot to tell me where enemy aircrafts are, which I should attack in his opinion, I want my squadmates to tell me about enemy fighters. The way it currently (since years now) is handled is absolutely annoying and gives 0.0 immersion. I would say, I hope they will do it better in the next game, but this will take years.

I don't know if it's connected but if I'm leading the flight the "attack nearest air target" does nothing. They won't fight at all most of the time. My solution now is to never lead the flight (PWCG SP missions).

In career mode the problem is, you get squadron commander after a few weeks. In my last Bf 110 career on the Stalingrad map I was promoted to Leutnant after 4 weeks and one week later became squadron commander. And being squadron commander and not leading the flight you are in, is simply absolute unrealistic.

I think of it as giving my subordinates leadership training. Plus they spot the enemy a damn sight better than I can. ?
