Hi All, A friend of mine is keen to start joining and flying our combat flight simulation, it's been a long time since I joined and honestly i cannot remember how I did it ? I have already pointed out that BoS can be demanding as far as his PC is concerned, and have shown him a list of basic requirements needed. Would I be right in saying that he visit the home page [www.il-2 sturmovik.com  and then registration to supply an email address and password, I have also suggested that he buy Battle of Stalingrad for starters and slowly build from there.

I also suggested Track IR 5 and a good reliable joystick[Thrustmaster T 16000m ]

Cheers

Think you’re correct on the website.

He’d save a few bob buying one of the cheaper alternatives to TIR5 unless he found a decent flea bay deal.

Titles from Kuban onwards were a little more demanding than Stalingrad and Moscow. What he buys would also depend on what he has an interest in I guess. The older titles are a cheap pick up in the sales usually.

A lot like the Delanclip solutions. Ive had their clip for about 5 years (i use it with TIR) and its absolutoely been solid. The TIR camera refreshes at 120hz (and can do divisions of this well (60hz for instance). However thats it. Ive always found that if im not vsynced to my monitor's 60Hz looking about can be jittery (the lower the fps the worse it gets). If your friend is not using a gsync monitor or an uber GPU he may need to consider this.

Opentrack is very very good but for ease of use, the TIR sofware is hard to beat.

I'm in full agreeance with BOO in regard to trackir considerations and operational advice. I'm a proud pancaker. However, I would add .... to taffy's "friend" .... that perhaps he (or she) should contemplate FC1 or FC2 as a good place to start.
