taffy2jeffmorgan Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Hi All, In careers to be able to fly the La-5 FN series 2 it only appears on the Kuban map which is understandable with the date of 1943 and the only unit that operates this fighter is the 249th fighter air regiment and then its a progressive career flying in order the Lagg 3/ La-5 series 8 and then the La-5 series 2. So am I right in saying that that's the only opportunity in BoS to fly the series 2 apart from being able to fly it on short flights. And also does anyone know of any third party missions been posted since the introduction of the La-5 FN series 2 Cheers
Skycat1969 Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 You are correct that the La-5 FN series 2 is only available to the 249th in the final phase of the Kuban campaign. It's not terribly difficult though to edit the campaign to add the La-5 FN to other fighter regiments, or to introduce it in an earlier phase of the campaign (see the extended career mod by Sevenless for examples). I made a similar edit a while back to replace IL-2 Sturmoviks with Soviet-marked P-47D Thunderbolts in the Kuban campaign.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted May 20, 2023 Author Posted May 20, 2023 Thanks for the info, I'll check it out
Sandmarken Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Do we have a map that lets us make something historical with the La5Fn? Was it used more in the kuban map in the time after the career ends? Either im not a great at reaserch or its all in russian, but I cant find much online apparat from who used it and where. I bought it long ago flew it thinking it is a great plane then forgott about it. Until now ?

Hi concerning Maps: Velikiye Luki: until end of January 1944: (after Velikiye Luki was liberated there were Battles of Novosokolniki and Nevel. Easy Mission Generator by Vander has since 1 year an addional front line: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/78675-new-front-line-for-velikiye-luki-ca-may-43-september-43-v01beta-for-emg-v60-and-v01beta-for-emg-v611/ This front line was implemented by Vander. It would be possible to add some new fronts until end Jan44. Kuban Map action could be extended until ca. April or May 44 on the crimea. Edited May 20, 2023 by kraut1 1

Thanks that sounds intresting, but did the soviet airforce field squadrons using La5fns at those places at those times? ?

Sorry, I have no information concerning russian air units. As far as I know there will be a finnish/Leningrad map released. For 1944 suitable too.
Hotaru_Ito Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Consider PWCG for an La-5FN career. There you can fly it all the way to the end of the war (on the Stalingrad and Rhineland maps, since we don't have appropriate ones) rather than just a few weeks at the end of the Kuban campaign.
FoxbatRU Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 (edited) With a high degree of probability, there was no La-5FN in the Kuban at all. Or there were single aircraft. In the available documents of the air regiments, the modification of the aircraft was not always indicated. He just started to enter service. There is also a good off-line campaign, where in some missions you can fly the La-5FN. Edited May 20, 2023 by FoxbatRU 2

Yes for the Kuban area and this special version of the La5FN that might be the correct date. However: Quote The La-5FN in Combat and Combat Tactics The La-5FN first saw combat on 8 July 1943 at the Bryansk Front with the 32nd GvIAP commanded by Hero of the Soviet Union Col. V. Davidkov. See ‘The La-5F and La-5FN in Combat’ for further information. Moore, Jason. Lavochkin Fighters of the Second World War (S.105). Fonthill Media. Kindle-Version. The La-5FN first saw combat in July and August 1943 over the Kursk battlefield with the 32nd GvIAP. What was probably the first victory by a La-5FN took place over Maloarchangelsk on 8 July, when a Fw-190 was shot down by Lieutenant Vladimir A. Drekhov. Moore, Jason. Lavochkin Fighters of the Second World War (S.112). Fonthill Media. Kindle-Version. So I see no problem whatsoever to tweak a few regiments in BoK by my mod to have the La5FN available in 07/43 or 08/43. Let me know if this helps you. Otherwise, as already mentioned by others, try Pat Wilsons excellent career mod to have more singleplayer flying time with this plane.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted May 20, 2023 Author Posted May 20, 2023 Thanks Sevenless and Foxbat for the info.
