WOW. Talk about much needed breath of fresh air in the genre.  I'm hoping him and his team can bring it all together.  As the last few months have shown, it's definitely need more than ever.

Awesome to see this announced! I know it'll be a while in development, but I suspect we may see Combat Pilot before we see a WW2 pacific campaign of any kind for DCS or whatever the new project from the IL-2 team is (Still hoping for Korea).

Fantastic!  Good luck Jason.:clapping:

It all hinges upon the quality of the planned multiplayer element.  This is a not-to-be-lost opportunity to produce some real netcode.

I do not think it all hinges on the multiplayer element at all because there are many out there looking for a robust single-player experience as well.

Yes I've heard tell about those people and have singularly failed to understand them, but I'll leave that debate for another time.

Sure, you do that.

Alternatively tell us what's on your mind and let's see how you hold up. ;)

But earlier Jason has announced that he is in Microprose. He left from there so fast?

It’s a not-to-be-lost opportunity to start from scratch without inheriting all the baked in shortcomings of the GBS series that Jason is surely familiar with;

Netcode, A.I. and a useable mission builder.

I remain cautiously optimistic. It's not the first Jason's attempt at creating PTO product and there are more challenges ahead compared to previous, failed one. Building a complex sim platform from scratch, and using much more expensive qualified workforce at that. If they don't come up with strong financing within a year or two, this one's going to flop as well.

Still, I admire his dedication and if anyone's going to pull it off, it's him, being the only dev in the industry since 2000 (CFS2) who aims at making PTO a primary product and not just a DLC for someting else.

Being primarily a PTO fan myself, I really hope we'll get there in the end. Fingers crossed!

Amazing news! Guessing this means that BoX isnt headed to the Pacific then, maybe this party explains Jason's departure from here. Very exciting though, hoping the single player experience is Microprose level!

As long as it can have large formations of Ai (including a B-24 and (or at least) a B-25)) then happy days :)

I mean no disrespect when I say this. I have no grudge against you or the developers. But it’s kind of sad that when you finally break your silence about IL2 you do it to defend yourself against comments made by Jason.

You are obviously aware of this community’s insane thirst for news about what’s next for IL2. Now would be a very good time to show us a little of what you have been developing. Actions still speak louder than words.

Pretty sure Han addressed that in the last sentence of his post above:

Quote

About what IL-2 is headed on in present - you got to wait for news a bit more. Only what I can disclose at the moment - development is full ahead and development team is enforced to level which was never in our hands scince 2010.

So while it currently has an overall image of not much going on for going forward apparently there is and for whatever reason they will not make it public yet.

Maybe this announcement by Jason will help push that forward some.
