How to play without an internet connection

I have a setup in a place where I do not have always the internet connection working and it is anyway a very low download speed. When it works at fastest I have at best 700 kb/sec but can be 300 kb/sec in average. Yes it is remote in the middle of the woods. So I may have an older version running as it would be too long sometimes to make an update. I generally update by copying the whole IL2 folder from another setup where I have always the latest version. Over there the download speed is 1 TB/sec, another world. When I have no connection then starting the game is impossible. The launcher immediately instead of Play mentions Failed to Update immediately. If I start the IL2 application directly it loads and when the loading has finished it just crashes to the desktop. Tried a few times always the same.

So how can one play without an internet connection?

I often played without internet connection, for example PWCG. The game states lost master server connection and asks me if I want to exit or play offline.

But lately I noticed, that even with 2G internet connection, it is possible to play career mode. I am using the Steam version, so I have to start Steam first and then start the game from running Steam, as starting both, Steam and the game at the same time, needs too much download speed for 2G, but starting one after the other, works.

And when logged in in the game, you can even cut your internet connection, as it is only needed for authentification. You will then get notificated before each mission, that you don't have internet connection, but it doesn't matter.

So generally playing without internet connection or a very slow one, is possible. In your case, I would guess, that you have to completely delete the not updated game from your PC before uploading the updated game to your PC, otherwise the game will recognize the not updated version as your "first" version and ignore the updated one.

I do not use Steam.  I get around Internet connection by the following:

 

Go to BOS folder, then Bin, then Game, find Restarter.exe and create shortcut for desktop.  Use this instead of Launcher.  When the logon screen appears, use the grey "offline" selection instead of the green "enter". This way you can play not connected to Internet and also will not download new patches.
