slikslik Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 I have the MK3 with extensions etc. and need advice on how tight can I adjust the cluthes without doing harm. Lately, pitching up or down in IL 2 "strays" up or down when I try to close in on a target. I know how to do the adjusting, I'm just looking for an approximat tightnss that allows me better control of my pitch etc. moves. I have 4 #50 springs installed. One on each axis. Thanks for any help fellow members take care Eddie.
1CGS LukeFF Posted May 17, 2023 1CGS Posted May 17, 2023 You can adjust the clutches as tight as you want without causing any damage. The main issue you will have, though, is that it will become increasingly difficult to return to the stick to a naturally centered position. 1
slikslik Posted May 17, 2023 Author Posted May 17, 2023 Thanks LukeFF. The clutch are already pretty loose. I thought that being too loose is what is causing my stick to not centre when lining up behind a bomber for example. As I get undr a bomber etc. and pitch up to aim, my stick stops when I stop moving hand on the stick but my plane keeps moving up. Same thing when pitching down. I thought by tightening the clutches, it would stop any pitch movement when I don't move my stick. I hope I explained my problem properly. I just want my plane to stop pitching when I stop moving it. Thanks again I really do appreciate the responses. take care Eddie.
Drano Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 Try adjusting your pitch trim in the game. FWIW I have a 40 and a 30 on each axis and a 200mm ext with enough clutch to smooth it out. Not much at all. When my aim is off I'll usually find I need to adjust trim so I'm not fighting the stick. I'm not a fan of all that extra spring tension. I just don't trust those little posts they attach to!

They are pretty durable, but what can happen if you overload them is the bearings can break. I had that happen the other day because I had two 50A springs on each axis, which as I found out later on the VKB Discord is too much. Fortunately, spare bearings are easy to acquire, so I'm back in business now with a 50A and 40A on each axis. But otherwise, there's nothing really to worry about with them - nothing happened at all to the two posts when the bearing snapped.
slikslik Posted May 17, 2023 Author Posted May 17, 2023 Thanks for the tip Drano. I'll play around with trim etc. before I tighten the clutches and report back.

You can also put a little dead zone in the axis in the game to help compensate for the stick not returning to an exact center but a small amount off.
slikslik Posted May 18, 2023 Author Posted May 18, 2023 Thanks for the tips guys. I tightened the clutches to thrir fullest, then backed off with one full turn to loosen the clutches. I left my previous dead zone etc. settings as they were. I loaded the game and BINGO..problem solved. I just hope nothing in the base is scraping or doing any kind of damage as a result , but so far so good. Thank you again fellow mwmbers...take care Eddie. 1
