stevinne Posted May 13, 2023 Posted May 13, 2023 I purchased the SSW D.IV and Flying Circus Vol. 1 - in that order. While I can fly the SSW and FC, I cannot access the "Against the Tide" campaign. In the store it says "If you own both this collector plane and either of Flying Circus volumes, "Against the Tide" historical campaign on the Western Front map will open up for you in the game for free." However, when I try to unlock the campaign, it tells me I need FC2. I contacted support a week ago. I got a message saying the message had been received, but never received any other response. I can handle being told that they screwed up the message on the sale site. But not getting any response is bad customer service for a game that already is receiving middling - at best - reviews from users. 1
Todt_Von_Oben Posted May 13, 2023 Posted May 13, 2023 (edited) Maybe they are still working on it? I bought the SSDIV and have been flying FC1 and FC2 from the start. Day before yesterday I flew "AGT" three times: got the balloon and all three SPADS, successful RTB, only to be told the Mission Failed. I can't proceed to the next mission. And yesterday, J2 Raker said he's having the same problem as I. So I'm hoping there's a glitch the Devs are aware of and are working on but I haven't heard anything about it yet, either. Anyone else having problems with the SSDIV Campaign "Against The Tide?" Edited May 13, 2023 by Todt_Von_Oben

Anyone else having problems with the SSDIV Campaign "Against The Tide?" You need to pre-order FC3 and then the mission will succeed... 2

The team has been on holiday, so that's probably why you haven't heard anything back. That said, give it until this coming Monday the 15th, and if you don't hear anything by then, just post a message here.
stevinne Posted May 16, 2023 Author Posted May 16, 2023 Heard back from customer support (it only took two tries and more than a week) and it sounds like either it's a case of a bad translation to English on both their sale site and Steam or the support person not understanding what her company offers. This is what she wrote: Dear player, It's not what it says: "...you can fly it in Career mode during Flying Circus timeframes if you own both this collector plane and either of Flying Circus volumes. In addition, in this case Against the Tide historical campaign on the Flying Circus Western Front map will open up for you in the game for free..." Western Front Map is Flying Circus – Volume II. I take that to mean that she believes you must own FC2, although that's clearly not what it says and the parts she highlighted makes that clear. She's also mistaken that the Western Front map is only FC2, but I've already spent more time on this than I wanted to. So I'm still feeling ripped off and sort of annoyed that customer support is so ill informed.
Red_Von_Hammer Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 "Feeling" is a bit different from *actually* being ripped off, not saying that because I'm a fanboy or anything. "Her company offered" that if you bought FC1 BEFORE FC2 came out of beta, you would have *automatically* gotten the map, they conclusively stipulated that back when FC2 was still in Beta. The map was a FC2-only feature right from the get-go, so they're in the clear on that one, X2. If you had bought FC1 sooner then it would have been a different story. The fact that you didn't automatically get the map tells me you thought it was still up for grabs and missed out, plainly and simply put, you missed out. It's all in the wording, and I see more and more people missing out on that these days, while actually they should be paying MUCH more attention to it as companies & service providers pull "fast ones" all over the place due to trying times, obtuse as it is, it's still on you.

I have access to the Western Front map. I fly it in Quick Combat all the time. That's not my complaint. My complaint is that their sales pitch for the plane clearly says it comes with the campaign if you have either of the FC modules. If you can only access the campaign by purchasing FC2, fine, just say it on the current sales blurb. That's not sour grapes because I didn't purchase FC2 in beta, it's feeling ripped off because they told me one thing when I purchased the plane and then told me no, that isn't what we meant. One of my complaints is that customer service doesn't seem to understand what is in the product the company sells - in this case access to the Western Front map. The other is that the customer service rep keeps telling me I'm wrong in my reading of the sales blurb, when the text is pretty clear and it's pretty clear that maybe she's having trouble with English. I think it's reasonable to expect to be able to rely on what they have written rather than being told I have to rely on what they meant to say. Edited May 17, 2023 by stevinne

Fair enough, I failed to follow up on the wording, sorry, that's on me (at least you got a free bump lol). IMO the issue seems like something maybe the admin should forward to them for you. 1

I would love to have an admin forward this, especially since I made the mistake of buying FC and the plane on the IL-2 store, rather than going through Steam, which is where I've purchased all my other IL-2 content. I thought I'd ensure that the developers got as much of the purchase price as possible, but I now see that was a mistake, since I have no recourse when dealing with someone who can't understand what is clearly written in the description. At least on Steam, I would be able to say "This is what I was told, this is what was delivered, who is in the wrong?" Let the buyer beware if the developer has no interest in correcting a clear mistake.

Let's just hope it's a simple language barrier issue rather than developer/publisher.
