Admiral_Anzei Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 Hey first post here. I'm usually a ground attack kind of guy and really enjoy flying the HS-129 B2 and the Hurricane Mk.2 on ground attack and airbase attack missions. I have a choice of between buying either the Yak-9T Collector Plane or Battle of Moscow or Bodenplatte. Was wondering if there's anyone here who used the Yak-9T for ground attack, especially against tanks or ships, how does it fare? Should I just go for one of the two other DLCs? Also on a side note: Is there a way to play the U-2VS with the Advanced Mission Generator? I want to use it on an Airbase attack and the best I can do is using it on the Career mode. The problem with Career mode is that it takes the heat death of the universe before I get to an objective at x8 speed. Apologies if my English is bad, it's not my native language.
2./SG2_assadoc Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 If this is all about interesting ground attack experience i would suggest Battle of Normandy for Mosquito (fancy and fast) and Me 410 (has Stuvi). If BoN is not an option, i would recommend Battle of Bodenplatte - any plane there can ground attack effectively. (And Battle of Kuban has better ground attackers than battle of Moscow)
ShamrockOneFive Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 Despite it being endlessly repeated around the internet, the Yak-9T was not explicitly an anti-tank or ground attack oriented aircraft. The primary goal was to increase firepower. The Yak-9T is one of my favourites but if you take it out in a career in Battle of Kuban you will get the usual mix of fighter operations that all other Yak squadrons would have (and you'll also find it frequently mixed in with other Yak types). That's not to say that you can't absolutely use it for raiding an airfield but I wanted to warn you that it's not explicitly for ground attack operations. Bodenplatte is probably ideal as virtually everything there can be transformed into a fighter bomber. From the Spitfire IXe to the P-38 to the Fw190A-8 and Me262... lots of fighter bomber operations 1
=621=Samikatz Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 The 9T's gun works very well against at least AI tanks. Low angle shots with AP shells into the rear or sides very quickly set them burning 1
FeuerFliegen Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 While I enjoy the 9T, I feel that there is so much more to get out of an entire package such as Battle of Moscow or Bodenplatte. In my opinion the choice would be obvious. Since you like ground attack, the Ju88 from Moscow is a must for me.
FeuerFliegen Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 Also in Battle of Moscow you get the Bf 110 E-2, the IL-2 model 1941, Pe-2 Series 35, all of which are great ground attack planes. The planes in Battle of Bodenplatte are great too, but the ground attack planes in that package are fighter-bombers, and not planes build from the start as ground attack planes, such as the P-47, FW-190 A8/F8/G8, and other fighters that can carry bombs; so if you are big on ground attack, I'd go with Battle of Moscow. The current sale prices are too good to pass up.
ATAG_Headshot Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 The Yak-9T has lit a few player tanks on fire quite nicely for me.
RossMarBow Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 The 9t has very little ammo So its only worth using against targets that you need the big cannon for and can't hit with anything else Used in the correct way it does have unique abilities though I just wouldn't use it as my #1 ground attacking plane though

If you want to find yourself an AI Mirror Premium APK drawing application on the phone platform, the getmodnow website is the first choice for you with safe and free. Apologies if my English is bad, it's not my native language. The Yak-9T is primarily a fighter aircraft and is not specifically designed for ground attack missions. While it does have a 37mm cannon that can be effective against armored vehicles, it may not be as capable as dedicated ground attack aircraft like the HS-129 B2 or the IL-2 series. The Yak-9T's cannon has limited ammunition, and it can be challenging to hit small ground targets accurately due to its high rate of fire and limited ammunition capacity. 69th_Mobile_BBQ Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 The 9T's AP shells are decent against medium tanks and vehicles but, are quite deceptive. Yes, you can hit and destroy tanks and trucks but, you have to hit engine compartments or other vital mechanical components because the bullet basically punches a 37mm sized hole into whatever armor can't resist it. That means that things that are hit don't necessarily explode or become rendered nonfunctional when hit. The game is usually nice enough to cause the tank or vehicle to come to a stop and emit smoke when destroyed but, not explode. Sometimes, damaged targets with eventually "burn down" over time and explode much later on. Destroying artillery gun emplacements is going to require directly hitting the gun itself as being only a few millimeters off will only hit the dirt within the sandbagged crew area. HE rounds will make trucks and guns explode quite nicely, or even cause enough explosive splash damage to be effective if they hit close enough but, anything with more armor than a German halftrack is pretty much immune. In single player, my current favorite is the Hurricane. It has a pretty good selection of cannon loadouts to choose from and though it only carries either 1 500kg or 2 250kg bombs it's very easy to direct-hit the exact center of what you drop on. In a dive, it's not fast but, with a cruise speed around 270mph and excellent handling at all altitudes (especially at treetop level) it's actually not that relatively slow compared to other fighters of the same stage of the early/mid war. You'll still get overrun by enemy fighters that are after you but, the Hurri turns like nothing else so, as long as you know they're getting close enough to shoot, breaking their firing solution is not complicated. The P-39 also carries the 37mm in AP or HE only loadouts, plus, unlike the 9T, it can also carry bombs. It also has a pretty high max dive speed and cruising speed. The handling is not bad at altitudes where the ground isn't an immediate concern. The drawback is that it has a somewhat fragile engine, difficult visibility for non-VR pilots and needs to be kept going fast at low altitude or it will sink like a rowboat taking on water when trying to pull out of a dive. On the upside, the machine guns and extra ammo option for the 30 caliber mgs offer a lot more firing time after the 37mm runs out than the 9T's machine guns. You can strafe soft ground targets and still have a few bursts left to defend yourself with on the way home. As far as using any of these options to attack ships.... Gun barges and Schnellboots (German fast boats) should be killable with the 37mm (40mm for the Hurri) but larger ships are going to need bombs. In single player the AAA on big ships guarantees that the chances of getting away with it successfully are low. In multiplayer, I'm pretty sure that mission builders tone the power down a bit for playability reasons. Overall, in comparison to the options I listed above, I would say that if you're looking for a ground attacking experience that has decent survivability and the possibility of getting lots of ground targets to blow up in each mission, the IL-2 is the best for frontline attacking and tank busting, with the '43 model being best for taking on small/medium boats and barges. It does handle pretty well for its size and has reasonable speed too. Depending on how light it is on fuel, if the bombs are already dropped and you can keep the speed up, it can even fight enemy fighters well enough to make them give up and go home too. Or... just don't get hit in the tail and the enemy will eventually run out of ammo. You'll limp home but, you'll still be faster than a Po-2! ? 1
