jollyjack Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 Any one got their teeth set into TARGET? Wonder what the benefits are, as i never got used to it.
56RAF_phoenix56 Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 Because I've had a bit of trouble with TARGET recently, I've had to relearn how to use it... one big advantage of it is that it can detect some of the up or down switches that don't send a normal DirectInput signal to Windows. Having said the above, there is a way to send key presses from those switches, detailed here, but it might be daunting for many. The other advantage is that it is a pretty powerful scripting language. I use it to make sure my key presses are pretty much the same for all aircraft types on this sim, DCS and previously CloD. Important tip: when updating or reinstalling the TARGET software, disconnect all the Thrustmaster devices. 56RAF_phoenix 1

Hoss Posted June 5, 2023 Posted June 5, 2023 Without a doubt TARGET is the best All-in-One software for any HOTAS system out there. TARGET GUI programming, I use it for IL2 utilizing keyboard emulation to overcome the 64 dx limit. For DCS I use SCRIPT, specifically Sedenions Complete 128dx SCRIPT. I would highly recommend people look at the different software programs used to "FULLY" get every ounce of potential out of their HOTAS. Otherwise you are wasting your money. I highly recommend reading TARGET users manual to learn GUI programming, it's so damn simple it's childish at times. I can do pulse, hold presses with a button, Sequence commands (different command each time you press the button/switch)... Chain commands ( press the button/ switch once and it will perform a chain of events over a specified time) Axis to keystroke. Rename and reassign all the axis for all TM products. SCRIPT programming I have TEMPO commands set up stick and throttle (long/short) presses. If it's not worth spending time to learn the software before you buy, you should by cheaper gear. 1

czech693 Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 (edited) Here's an old profile that I posted about five years ago. I program the Warthog throttle so that the two-way toggles functioned for key settings and also turn the leds on and off so that I could tell if they were activated or not. I need to mention that back when I did this there was only one key setting for landing gear, G. So, you had to make sure the toggle was in the correct position for either a runway start or an air start. Now there's an up and down setting so that portion would need to be changed to two separate key commands. Edited June 19, 2023 by czech693
IckyATLAS Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 Please check my other post for an configuration .fcf file. In my opinion Target is an excellent software and it allows an incredible level of control on button and axis behaviors. It is very complete, visual, just the type of software you are happy to get when you spend so much money on a complete Warthog Hotas+TPR pendular pedal system. It is way more than what I could expect. It is a bit like the IL2 editor. It is not a straightforward easy to use software and the manual (not like Jim's one) does give you starting steps and insights but that's it. This means you have to dig in spend multiple hours and test behaviors. But it is well made and logically organized. Naming conventions are excellent. So once you understand the mechanics all becomes clearer. When you receive a configuration file you first open it in Target then you can check all the button attributions and see if they match with the Key Settings in Il2. It is the best way to proceed. But you need to reprogram the axis in IL2 once you have run IL2 from Target. This is really quickly done in less than a minute in the IL2 Key settings. The behavior may well also depend on the sim for which you will use it and there things may be different. I have only one sim IL2 so I cannot comment on DCS or other. The combination with IL2 is easy as the Key Settings in IL2 are also well made and easy to program.
kestrel79 Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 Never used it. Most of the buttons get picked up stock for me in IL2 with my throttle.
