It is a "sale" in name only. They are selling all accessories at a markup so they more than make up the "sale" discount.

Well one is always free to get any accessories from whomever they wish.  Like Steam for the LIghthouse tracking and/or the controllers.  Or Amazon. Or HTC.

I am  not aware of any  required accessories  that would have to be purchased from Varjo. I am pretty sure they have always listed those at a higher price.

I gave quite a bit of thought to the sale. In the end though I got over this episode of G.A.S. The deciding factor was the number of posts I came across that described returns (sometimes multiple) due to dead pixels, "mura" and other issues with the display. I'm wondering whether attention to providng higher refresh rates might be more useful than bragging rights to highest resolution. Thanks for sales heads up. Surely I'll go through the same decision process next time?

I couldn't find base-stations anywhere for less than $400 each, even more in Japan. That was the GFY moment.

Ouch! I've got four of them now. On Steam they've recently been available for $150 so I decided to get an extra. That's one of the reasons for considering the Aero. I hate returning things, so I guess I'll just have monitor customer reports on the Aero before the next "sale" or until another tethered option becomes readily available.
