Magnetic and Geographic North - Declination correction

I have seen a mismatch between the plane compass reading with the one from the ruler on the map.

The plane compass shows the Magnetic North. The map compass gives headings I suppose related to the Geographic North.

Normally you need to have a magnetic declination correction to match your plane compass to the geographic north.

I have a mission where you have compass heading and distance information. It is for a long stretch and the final error can be many kilometers and so you may miss your rendez-vous.

I checked what was that correction for the year 43 (Kuban Map).

At 1000mt on the Novorossiysk region it was rounded 5° correction. This means that you have to subtract 5° to your plane compass to match the heading indicated by the ruler on your map.

I am not 100% sure about this but I have some memory of this being discussed here several years ago.

Iirc, in this sim the compass heading and the map are alligned, removing the declination consideration from the table.  Also if I recall, the reason given for this was there wasnt really too much to gain from a simulation point of view and the maps weren't that big as to cause change in declination over large distances.

Also if I remember correctly, the general oppinion (mine also) was that this is ok and not a big issue.
