Splitting formations into pairs?

Is it possible to split formations into pairs and have them attack separate targets? I don't see any way to give commands to individuals within a grouped flight

I have atleast never found a way. You can have two pair one cover the other and then they split at some point.

You can split the cover link with a Force Complete command, and then reconnect them with a Cover Command.

The link between the Wingman and the Player can only be split with a return to base command but it does not work so well.

Same if the Advanced parameters of the plane have a return to base at a given damage threshold. 

But to my knowledge you cannot program to separate the links in a flight and regroup them separately.

There is no command for that. 

That would be fantastic to have this possibility but alas it does not seem to exist.

Another limitation that seems so strange is that you cannot Spawn a flight only individual planes. But you can delete a flight.
