No Aircraft or Ground unit markers on the map.

MapMod-NoUnits.zipThe map no longer shows the player, friendly aircraft, or ground units. I did this to force visual navigation and target identificaiton, without spoiling target positions by opening the map. Use JGSME for an easy toggle, or just copy the data into your game folder ( but make a backup first, this mod replaces the sprite sheet for the map icons).

Hey @ThunderBat, just tested this MOD, it works fine and it's very welcome ? 

So far I know there is no other way to disable the spotter mechanic in career mode and I feel a bit disturbed by it, especially when I play Flying Circus its unnecessary without radios and ground control.

Nice! Thankfully it's an easy toggle with JGSME, and less setup than getting modded VR ready. I really like trying to do difficult navigation in my career missions, and this mod makes a night fighter mission a little more intense

Excellent!!! Always hated those big "radars" on the minimap. I get their intended function but really not the best implementation.

 

Any chance the big blue circles could also be removed?

Works great in Career! Is there a way to get this working in Quick Missions/Missions? Either way, thanks a lot for this mod. Playing regular Career over PWCG because of this mod.

Hi,

so I downloaded the mod, it contains map.dds file in this path: "data\swf\cache\il2\map.dds"

The problem is that the game folder contains
"data\swf\" but doesn't contains sub-folders and the file "\cache\il2\map.dds". 

Actually, file "map.dds" isn't anywhere in the game folder structure, so there is nothing to overwrite and JGSME just create the missing folder structure and add the file but that of course does nothing.

Any ideas how to use the mod?

EDIT> I figured it out, I haven't clicked the enable mod option in the game settings.

The mod is not working fully for me. I do indeed have mods turned on, and am currently playing the game alongside several other non-conflicting mods with no problem, but this mod in particular is not fully working as intended in career mode.

 

The map icons for ground units and such remain, though thankfully the "spotter radar" aircraft icons are gone. I am wondering if perhaps in recent updates the file structure changed, or the location for icons in the map.dds file changed to make it not work as intended anymore? Any help appreciated as removing the ground unit markers would definitely increase the Career mode immersion even further.
