cripplehawk Posted October 8 Posted October 8 494th Fighter Squadron (48FG) providing top cover for the 355th Fighter Squadron (354FG) June 4, 1944 My pilot Flight Officer Nathan Jackson is "Ditto 6" of the 355th down below became an ace that day despite being assigned to bomb a railway station. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions that day This was his 15th mission his second time he was in combat with the Luftwaffe. His first enemy air contact he took out 3 Fw 190s which happened on his tenth mission. 3

In his first two missions on June 4, 1944 he already made contact with the Luftwaffe, mainly the Abbeville boys of JG26 Ruthford in action over Dunkirk Which almost ended badly not just for him but also for the men of the 455th Bombardment Squadron (323BG) 5
