cripplehawk Posted May 7 Posted May 7 My new pilot from Idaho. Captain Howard Ludlow. So far since April 26, 1944 he did 5 missions over the channel Mainly escort missions in which nothin really happens (for the fighters not the bombers). But he already lost 2 men. One was shot up on his first mission over Cabourg France during a bomb run. He made it back home only to crash at base leg at RAF Christchurch. The second loss occurred over the English Channel when "Warcraft 8" collided with "Warcraft 6" forcing "Warcraft 8" to bail over the channel close to the French coast. Warcraft 6 miraculously was more or less unscathed despite colliding with his wingman and made it back home more or less unharmed. One of Captain Howard Ludlow's escort mission over the channel 5
cripplehawk Posted May 11 Posted May 11 No. 317 "City of Wilno" Polish Fighter Squadron ( 317 Dywizjon Myśliwski „Wileński"). Flying over RAF Christchurch ready to provide Escort to Captain Howard Ludlow's (My pilot) flight (510th FBS) across the English channel . Much to Captain Ludlow's frustration they made enemy contact and made some kills. Captain Ludlow made 3 escort missions prior and had no enemy contact and lost a pilot over the English Channel in one of the escorts due to a mishap. Captain Ludlow of the 510th FBS on a bomb run. 3
cripplehawk Posted May 23 Posted May 23 (edited) My new pilot from the foot hills of North Carolina. He is one of the replacement pilots. His first mission was on May 8th, 1944 Escorting the 556th Bombardment Squadron 387th Bombardment Group. He ALMOST got killed by flak on his first mission. Apart from that no losses from either the 355thFS or the 556BS For the first 9 missions he flown so far he saw NO Luftwaffe. Much to his frustration. (Most of the Luftwaffe were getting decimated by the 8th and 15th Air Forces, the RAF Bomber Command when they pound Germany proper. and Finally the Red Air Force on the ever collapsing Eastern Front) The 556th Bombardment Squadron out in full force. Ghost666 Posted May 24 Posted May 24 28 Dec 1944, Kelz Air Field (Y-54). Flight Officer Byron Dwoskin, 508FS, 404FG, 9th AF makes a strafing run. He will be credited with 2 EA destroyed. 3

CzechTexan Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Beautiful water colors as the river and sea mix - south of Odessa. 4
BladeMeister Posted May 28 Posted May 28 The Gull Wing up close and personal! What a fun plane to fly. Brings back such good memories of the original IL2 Sturmovik. For me, the Chaika is worth the price of admission, and she is totally exciting to fly. The Odessa map is just gravy on the I 153. Whomever did the modeling work on the I 153 needs a good pat on the back and a raise, yes more rubles for the modeler!!! Now wasn't there another plane released with this early access? S!Blade<>< 4 1

MDzmitry Posted June 6 Posted June 6 (edited) During a free hunt mission got myself hit by flak, luckily the events unfolded after the D-Day landing, so I managed to nurse the poor bird to the nearest Allied airfield which happened to be A-5 Chippelle. I'm quite sure the Americans didn't expect to have a crippled Brit as a guest. Fuel, water, engine, airframe, even cockpit canopy - you name it, it was damaged. Edited June 6 by MDzmitry 6
