Pic related: Gruppenkommandeur of II./JG 52 Major Radulf Mertzer follows Leutnant Helmut Lange of 5./JG 52 into a dive on a fleeing reconnaissance Pe-2 over Kerch in July, 1943.ย The pilots have 231 and 43 combat missions respectively.ย (231 missions took about 170 hours to fly between Moscow - Stalingrad and into Kuban) ย Oh dear I should have explained. This is a scripted campaign not a "Career" per se But my Hoth number of sorties in the Eastern Front was actually only in the mid 400s (includes Moscow and Stalingrad). You just have to be a Squadron Leader and fly multiple sorties a day). But as you know JG51 never was in the South. But a few Luftwaffe men did reach that number. Heck Hans Rudel was well over 800 missions by then (He reached 1000 in February 1943) ย ย ย ย 2
