Shea Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Hi all,i have a question about plane skins for the game, devs would it be possible to include the skins in updates instead a seperate download like in ROF?It would leave thing much easier for the customer.
ATAG_Slipstream Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Not everyone will want to download and install skins though shea. I don't want to see fantasy squad skins ingame. 1
SR-F_Winger Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 (edited) I presonally would love to see a system like the one in ROF here. Its always awesome to be able to see on his skin whom you are fighting against. Especially once the community has established and old foes meet eachother ingame. And with a voting system like in ROF and afterwards final approovation by the devs people can be pretty sure that no offensive skins come into the game. In ROF if you prefer total hisotrical correctness you have always the possibility NOT do download and install the approoved skinpacks or even just manually detele certain single skins if you dont want them to show up in game. Not installed -> not displayed in game. Instead a defaultskin is shown. Winger Edited July 28, 2013 by Winger
migmadmarine Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Not everyone will want to download and install skins though shea. I don't want to see fantasy squad skins ingame. Well, in that case, these people (like myself) would download and install only the historical skin packs,
Bearcat Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I hope that by the time this thing gets to the west I won't have any issues with my skin.. I have been using this skin for the past 10 years.. It was the first design that I did and I have modified it slightly over the years..
WWDubya Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 A much as I love skinning, and seeing other skinner's works, I do agree that the sheer number of fantasy or online squad skin-sets can quickly become overwhelming (admitedly, I'm a rather prolific squad skinner in RoF). What might make a good compromise would be to have some sort of squad/pilot patch system. It would be kind of like the IL2 nose-art system where the squad's or pilot's "patch" or logo (or possibly even fuselage or wing banding) can be superimposed over the existing skin of an aircraft. This way, you can fly your squad's colors while keeping to a more historic overall value while in game. It would reduce the hard-drive space required to keep up with the Joneses as well as allow for quicker mission loads. This, of course, would not eliminate the ability for the community to submit historically accurate skins for inclusion into the game, whatever the submission criteria may be. My $0.02... take it for what it is. 1
Bearcat Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I dunno.. I have yet to see a squad's skins that were hard on the eyes... I think the term "fantasy squad skins" gets a bad rap.. Many squads are based on historic skins and the only thing unique about them is the nose art.. Most of the squads that I have seen that do personal skins try to keep things as relatively historic as possible.. In my case and in the case of the 99th.. the redtails are our signature.. and as I said.. I have been flying Buffalo Soldier for over a decade and I would hate to have to pick some generic skin to fly. I do understand why some people have the issues with personal skins as far as possible cheating etc but I think that sometimes we worry too much about that.. I think that as long as a server host can set skins as either downloadable or not it should be less of a concern.. Then again I don't know if part of the issue with skins is net traffic.. In any case I hope that by the time BoS gets to the west if not upon release.. that I can have the option to skin my own aircraft and put my own face in the cockpit. That has always been one of the little things about IL2 that I thought was just great.
Trooper117 Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 I really hope we will be able to choose not only our own aircraft skin, but the rest of our flight as well. Plus, if we are playing our own game offline, the ability to choose our adversary's individual livery too. This is something that is not available in RoF at the moment, so hope they get it right for BoS
Zoring Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 The ideal situation would be the rof vetting system with a button in the launcher to download historical/fantasy skin packs.
FZG_Merlin Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Not everyone will want to download and install skins though shea. I don't want to see fantasy squad skins ingame. I do.. I want to be able to personalize planes (such as tail, or nose, for squad quick ID)
FuriousMeow Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Skins are controlled to prevent individuals from creating an invisible scheme, so they have to go through an approval/vote process. I only download the historical packs in RoF. I did my own skins in Il-2, but I like RoF's method. 1
Trooper117 Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Yes, understand the control measures for online play. But you still can't assign individual skins to all planes in a mission when you are playing offline in RoF. Hope they don't adopt RoF's system in BoS, but rather they allow us to choose paint jobs like in IL2.
FuriousMeow Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 (edited) That was only QMB in Il-2 that you could do that, and that wasn't until a much later release/patch that this could be done. 3.x or 4.x. Edited August 23, 2013 by FuriousMeow
leitmotiv Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 now you can even put your skins on static airplanes in IL2 4.12 when your building mission
VoodooGT Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 My preference would be to allow anyone who wished to make personal skins to be allowed to. It should be the host of the server to determine if default or personal skin will be allowed just the original iL2 game allowed. I have made skins for both iL2 and RoF. Usually only a handful of individuals {20 to 30} ever vote and to be honest the vote never seemed to matter anyway. The RoF voting system was a waste of time and even Jason Williams said he would not require his personnel to adhere to a Template standard. The only thing the vote did was slow down and discourage some individuals from attempting to create skins. Also many times those who voted not to include a skin in RoF did so out of a personal grudge rather than from a constructive disagreement. The only positive for having the RoF vote was that an occasional individual provided positive feedback and solutions to skinning issues which improved my skins but I can count those times on one hand out of the hundred skins submitted.
