jadebullet Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Hey guys, I started an American Breguet career last night. I had a pretty harrowing mission bombing an enemy airfield which resulted in a dead gunner, dying engine, and a difficult flight home. Unfortunately, in the post mission I discovered that the credit for my ground target destruction went to a wing mate, not to me. (There was a line of Halbs on the flight line that I obliterated in a low level bombing run. I know for a fact that it was my bombs that destroyed them as I watched the explosions) Has anyone else run into this issue? Also, what is up with the enemy AI in this game. I was super nervous because a flight of Fokker D.VIIIs dropped on us at the bomb point. Instead of the harrowing fight I was expecting, the Fokkers damn near escorted us back to our home base. The enemy planes just sat directly on the 6 of the allied flight, neither shooting at the Entente planes, nor being shot in return. At one point one peeled off and looked like it was going to come and pick me off but it just looped past me to get back in line behind my wing mates. I'm playing on hard difficulty. Did I just encounter an odd AI pacifism bug or something?

Recording a track , maybe video, let alone attached a mission file which was generated and save in the game directory would be better for devs to look at the issues.
AcidBath Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 (edited) The FC enemy AI had been dreadful for the last few builds, I call it a gnat dance. They'll swarm around following you or friendly AI, and on slight occasion actually attack, but rarely in any prolonged manner. I was hoping that they'd do something meaningful to fix it in the FC2 release. Just reinforces my feeling that FC is the crippled step brother of BoX that is lucky to just get table scraps, if there happen to be any (but really now, who am I to complain). Just a theory mind. But it did get sales from WW1 enthusiasts so it was a successful venture from a business perspective. Besides that, I'm sure WWII dudes don't enjoy downloading FC content they won't use. And I certainly don't like downloading WWII stuff that I won't ever use. Standalone is the answer but that is probably not feasible now. So we choose a rock, a hard place or bandaid solutions, none of which are particularly palatable. So interest wanes .... MP is good. But it's a relatively small crowd compared to the majority who cannot partake for many and varied reasons.
=IRFC=Gascan Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 MP is very good. The Ai is barely acceptable for target practice. That's why the MP scene is so important if you want to actually get a challenging fight. Yesterday during Bloody April, I led a flight of 8 Breguets into an attack on German tanks, a fortified infantry post with machine guns, and an artillery battery. All went well until 15-20 Huns, mostly Albatros and Pfalz, attacked us, while SPADs and Nieuports dove in from above to assist. Every one of the ~30 planes in that fight was a player, and it was beyond amazing. At the end of it a single 15cm field howitzer survived. In a later round, the Breguets found the flight of 15-20 Huns over the top of one of the targets, with friendly SPADs and Nieuports collecting nearby. The bombers had to back off and shift focus to another target while a massive brawl broke out with 30-35 scouts swirling around. Eventually we came back in, diving hard to hit the tanks with several Pfalz following them down, observers blazing away with twin Lewis guns and clearing each others' tail. Really can't beat the MP experience. Unfortunately, there are always things that can get in the way of MP and prevent players from participating, which is why SP is so important. 1

I wrote a FC multiplayer dogfight mission that is essentially what you just described, though for our tiny squad of 3-4 players most of the mission's aircraft are AI. It angers me every time we fly it, I had such hopes for a really balanced and visceral experience but the brain-dead AI turn it into a turkey shoot. Heck the MP behavior and action you describe is bliss, where do I sign up? PM is fine if needed. Thanks! PS. What really irritates me is I have a BoX flavor of this mission were the AI enemy always wipes the floor with us if we're not "on our toes" within a few moments after the mission starts.
=IRFC=Gascan Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 No secret for MP. Check the Multiplayer Servers part of this forum. You should see the regular Sunday Fame or Flame on the FlugPark, as well as the currently running annual Bloody April event. The Sunday thing isn't really organized, its just the most popular time for people to hop on and fly on a regular basis with large numbers of players. The event is one of two per year that are run by Jasta 5, and happens on Saturdays for about a month. Next week the British Independent Air Force will be doing a night raid on distant targets in Germany. The week after that, the Gothas will raid England in return. Finally, we'll have two weeks of the fiercest fighting on the Western Front with both sides doing Photo Recons, then attacking ground targets. Most of the comms are handled on the FlugPark discord, if you're interested. 1
