Blitzen Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 (edited) I'd like to use swastika skins on all of my DAK aircraft. Most of the default and optional skins have blank tails or even worse German wing crosses.I'd settle for the "four bar "substitute for the swastikas if that's all that's available. major_setback Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 You would unfortunately for yourself need to make/ adjust the skin yourself. You could edit the skin in any image editing programme by adding any symbol you like. We cannot include certain emblems for legal reasons that may prevent sales in certain countries. Sorry.

Blitzen Posted April 12, 2023 Author Posted April 12, 2023 Thanks…I don’t play online and have learned long ago ( after a mistake or two,) not to post swastika pictures here, but I have to tell you German aircraft (9 esp.109’s just don’t look right without correct historical markings. The original Clod had swastika marked aircraft & skinners added many more. Very few new skins for say the bf-109F’s have been added since Desert Wings has come along….sigh…

I was very much hoping that people would use them to make a myriad of skins, and add any symbols or emblems they want to them. They are extremely easy to use too! Please try them everyone. You only need a simple editing program to be able to see the various layers, then turn them on or aff as you like. It is very simple. https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/Downloads.php?categoryid=43

Well I've seen your art work Blitzen and I really like it .. sigh .. ^ ^ .. Have you ever contemplated giving it a go, like with the skinning artwork as well ? I would love to see something you at least had a crack at, if it's anything like you do on paper or canvas, man it would be amazing! There you go, MS has just provided a link, easy peasy

Don't forget to look in the in-game 'manuals' section for a couple of PDF tutorials on skinning/templates. One more will be added soon ('Advanced skinning tutorial ...').
Mysticpuma Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Maybe TFS could encourage this with a few free Tobruk keys? Why not run a competition for the best Allied and Axis skins Competition runs for a month, multiple entries can be submitted by any players, all skins must be uploaded for any player to use. After a month, a vote takes place, winning skinner gets a Tobruk key (they can donate it if they want) There is a first, second and third place for each side. 6 keys, multiple skins? Worth a try?

They were of course done in paint and I found them exassperatingly time consuming .Of course this doesn't mean I'd be any better with using PC graphics tools! 40 minutes ago, Mysticpuma said: Maybe TFS could encourage this with a few free Tobruk keys? Beautiful. The human element makes your art very special. It is easy to add any symbol to any skin by using the template. - Open the template in an editor (example Gimp). - Paste the skin you want to alter onto a new layer (highest up in the layer order, at the top). - create a new layer on top of it. - paste or draw your symbol on the layer. - save it. If you want to add that same symbol to another skin, then load the skin into the template under the symbol, and save that too. Repeat if you want to make more. It is easy! Someday, if I find the necessary time for it, I'll try myself to produce more paintings. I painted my first painting when I was 12 or 13 by 1987 or 1988. 35 years later I'm painting my seventh painting only, that's an excessively slow progression.

zzzxxxxzzz Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 (edited) With photoshop or another editor you save it as .jpg or .png (I prefer .png) (with the alpha channel unchecked) Using this skin made by E69_julian57 as an example In green what you need to change, the circle corresponds to the prop hub spinning. I don't remember exactly what the rectangles are, but they usually go in the color of the upper camouflage. In red I think it is what is missing from the radiator in CloD, I don't know if in CloD that part paints something visible, I think not EDIT: Now in the blue rectangle, that part corresponds to the part that goes over the exhausts, you need to paint that part too For the tropical versions if I remember correctly you have to change something else but I don't remember exactly what Edited April 13, 2023 by zzzxxxxzzz

BTW.. If You want any pointers about skinning with Gimp just let Me know and I will be happy to help with My "Limited Abilities" Cheers Keith (Checkmysix/Keefyboy) Edited May 4, 2023 by warlord64 2
