Ju88: A-4 is faster than C-6!

I was just doing some testing, wondering just how much faster the C-6 was than the A-4, and despite the pilot's notes stating that the C-6 has faster speeds at all altitudes, and weighs less, it was consistently 5-6kph slower than the A-4.

I mostly used full climb power for my testing, no bombs, no modifications, and 1000L of fuel (with unlimited fuel selected as to not be a variable in testing).

The closest I could do to getting the C-6's speed close to the A-4, was to change the rear turret to the single MG131, saving weight and drag, stating 3kph speed gain.  In this case it would top out at about 3kph slower than the A-4.

Could a moderator please move this to the FM / AI Discussion under Developer Assistance?  I think this post should have been made there originally.

Make sense in my opinion, an empty bomber (A4) is lighter than a empty fighter (C6) because of the 5 guns in the nose section. I don't have the exact numbers at the moment......

Not true.  Plus the fact that the C-6 has much less drag from not having exterior pylons for bombs, dive brakes, etc.  It might have extra guns in the nose but it also has 3 less turret guns available for crew members to control.  Also weight doesn't affect speed nearly as much as drag.

A-4 weight:

Empty weight: 8619 kg
Minimum weight (no ammo, 10% fuel): 9458 kg
Standard weight: 12110 kg
Maximum takeoff weight: 13655 kg
Fuel load: 1277 kg / 1680 l

C-6 weight:

Empty weight: 8315 kg
Minimum weight (no ammo, 10% fuel): 9139 kg
Standard weight: 10500 kg
Maximum takeoff weight: 13503 kg
Fuel load: 1277 kg / 1680 l

A-4 speed:

Maximum true air speed at sea level, engine mode - Climb: 424 km/h
Maximum true air speed at 2000 m, engine mode - Climb: 462 km/h
Maximum true air speed at 5000 m, engine mode - Climb: 486 km/h

C-6 speed:

Maximum true air speed at sea level, engine mode - Climb: 427 km/h
Maximum true air speed at 2000 m, engine mode - Climb: 468 km/h
Maximum true air speed at 5300 m, engine mode - Climb: 498 km/h

Did you tested the C6 with flamedampers installed? In reality they lowered the exhaust thrust and create some drag....

No, as I mentioned in the original post, I made no modifications.   I then tried it again with the MG131 modification (adding 3kph to top speed) and it was still slower.
