slikslik Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 The one thing missing from this sim is the ability to click and zap closer to taget areas. It takes way too long for me when in VR. No way to sip a coffee etc etc. while flying for an hour just to get started in combat. Why not give us single players the option? Realism is one thing, but some of us have this sim to get into action a bit faster than having to fly over water etc for an hour or so. while wearing the HMD. Know what I mean? It should be simple for the develepors to do. 1
slikslik Posted April 9, 2023 Author Posted April 9, 2023 Does anyone here agree? Would it be better for members here that fly in VR single player mode? I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I purchased this combat sim for combat, not particularly to fly almost an hour to get to combat. I'm not being a smarty ass, but if all I wanted from a flight sim was to just fly around, I would have purchased a sim like Microsoft Flight Sim. It wouldn't hinder the game in any way if we had the option to warp or quickly get close to our combat area.
TCW_DirtyMike0330 Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Maybe you should make your own single player missions, play multiplayer, or go play War Thunder. 1
BraveSirRobin Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 If you don’t want to spend a lot of time flying around before you get into a fight you should play the Quick Missions.
Arioch_RN Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 I moved to il-2 from Warthunder because I wanted a “proper” WW2 sim in VR - though most of my time has ended up being in Flying Circus. If I don’t fancy a long transit time I kick in the autopilot and pump up the time acceleration which takes a half-hour transit down to single-digit minutes.
Charon Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 (edited) Agreed, this was a great feature in Microsoft's combat flight sims. I'm sure it's too late to retrofit it to Il-2, but it is something that should be considered for any new engine. In re derisive comments about warthunder... I think it's revealing that one of the most consistently populated multiplayer servers is the wartheunderesque Finnish server. It turns out that many players don't care about weird ahistorical plane-sets or unreasonably short distances to the front, they just want quick flights and reliable action (because this is a game, not a job). The lack of a warp-to-combat-area feature means there are planes that are effectively out of scope for Il-2. A PBY Catalina would be cool, but cool enough to fly it for 12-24h? Our Ju 88C-6 has the same problem -- who can honestly say they're using it as it was used historically? Strategic bombers are pointless to make flyable if they're only ever going to be used to bomb targets 10km behind the front from 5km. Even the P-38 and P-51 are hard to use in a historical manner, as their great range just isn't a factor for the missions that players are actually willing to fly.
