S!

Revvin. Those were the times, flew Mig Alley quite a bit :) Mig-15's were a pain in the butt with their climb and acceleration :P

i hope with the advent of DCS:MiG-21 Fishbed we may get DCS:F-4 Phantom II?

I REALLY want TD/ED to make DCS:F-14-A Tomcat or DCS: A-4 Skyhawk.

The Skyhawk is being made currently by VEAO with a view towards ultimately making a Falklands theatre. They're making the A-4C version. I wouldn't hold my breath for the other two though.

So how does DCS work? You have to download "DCS World" first for free, then buy individual modules? Looks like at least 15 gigs to get DCS world and this F86 installed?

Can you dogfight AI Mig 15's once you get it all installed?

Posted

Yes DCS World is free and comes with 2 planes, the Su-25T and the TF-51 (P-51 Trainer) I think. Then you buy all the other planes as addons.

I've got DCS on Steam. I wonder if the Sabre will be available there's as well.

Aug 9th on Steam I believe.

Just reading a little- is there one area for battle at this point, with third parties developing additional locations?

Cheers Tektolnes, I'll have to give that some serious consideration!

Quick question: is the AI MiG-15 already a part of DCS-World or does it only come with the F-86?

Posted

It's available in DCS World with 1.29 as an AI only plane. You don't need to buy the Sabre. Leathernecks Mig-21 is also in there as an AI plane too so you can see the model up close if you want.

Can you select your AI opponents then? Sort of a QMB type of affair. The DCS website is anything but clear.

It looks like you download DCS world and install for free. Then buy the modules. Do the modules include an installer and work well with DCS world, or is this a tedious evolution that involves hours of dinking around with files?

One area, or are there others? I read something about Nevada. BTDT.

Guess I am asking someone who will give me the straight answer- how well does the sim work administratively, and how well do the aircraft fly? The few videos I've seen look OK, but lag IL2-BOS by a wide margin visually.

Thanks in advance.

Why not download it and try for your self? TF-51 should give you a good idea about FM.

Time and distance- I don't have access to my computer at the moment, nor do I want to waste time on software that is hyped but ends up being tedious and doesn't run well.

Thanks for the input though.

All the files are already installed, after buying a module you just get a registration code to be entered in-game.

All in all I'd say it's a painless experience to download and try DCS.

I'll second that. Very easy to administer.

It is a different experience from that of BoS, there's no doubt, but still a good one.

OK, thanks Gents. I also found the DCS Wiki page which helped sort things a bit. Looks like it will be worth the download.

ED site is down or it is me?

It's working for me

It's down for me too.

In the meantime, I tested the F-86 and found out that you really need to change the way you fly if you're to survive the Mig-15 onslaught.  I'm really not used to flying jets, so it's something new for me.

Nice video! I'm not a Sabre expert by any means but one suggestion I would give is: dont pull that much Gs on every turn you make, you are really giving your advantage away to Migs since they beasts on dogfighting.

That said I think that video shows perfectly how tight and fast dogfighting can be on jet planes.  :salute:

You shot one down!

Nice film. It is another world isn't it?

That actually looks very good.

Now with the Dora inbound and the Mig (which i'll most likely get), i can't really justify the Sabre. So many good flightsim releases and not enough time to enjoy them.

I'm no expert either, but i always thought that the Sabre was forced to turn and burn against the Mig, because the latter had a much better thrust to weight ratio and could dictate the fight.

It definately looks like an interesting matchup.

Good point. However, I have some of these prop reflexes that will just not go away... Going 400 kts and going 400 kmh is a whole different ball game. I'll have to work on these silk hands...

S!

And use throttle too a bit, not always full power. More speed = easier to pull a lot of G :)

I CAN'T WAIT TO BUY THIS! And the good thing about the Sabre is that 'Betty' did not exist yet. So I wont have to hear her tell me "Over-G, Over-G".
