2-axis vs 6-axis.

So here's a question for anyone who might have experience of both: does IL2 put out enough telemetry to justify a 6-axis motion-platform? Or a 3-axis? I've watched quite a few videos and can't say I've noticed the seat sinking (heave?) on landing (and suchlike). So maybe the telemetry in IL2 is 'basic' compared to a pro-level racing sim?

TIA. :)

Hi Hetzer - Important caveat, I have only been stalking motion simulators online, so no 1st hand knowledge, but your question reminded me of the video below (which you may have already viewed) where I think he discusses telemetry motion in his H6 in IL2 as compared to DCS.  I look forward to your decision and hearing about your experiences with motion as well as with the FFB Brunner - Congrats!!

EDIT - Actually just saw that @Montana_*VR*'s response to your old thread was where I saw the video the first time, so am sure you have seen it.

Also, here are his Updated Youtube comments that also seem to get to your question (I don't recall ever seeing an updated video):

UPDATE ON MOTION: After Montana ZH's questions about the motion of the H6 in relation to other's experience on YouTube, I spent the evening adjusting profile settings to try and get to the bottom of what was going on. I may have good news for you IL-2 fans out there that want motion. It turns out there is some Heave (up and down) telemetry in the sim but it was very understated in comparison to the Pitch, Roll and Yaw. By turning the Motion Profile's Boost way up I was able to get some ground effects and impact when you land. That means you should be able to tweak the H6 settings to get an effect you want, from extreme movement to none at all in Heave. Unfortunately there still doesn't seem to be much movement in the Surge or Sway directions, so not really feeling much acceleration even with everything boosted. BUT the Heave is a huge deal and really adds to the immersion. If there is enough interest, I can make a follow-up video showing the results of the new settings. If that is something enough people are interested in, please comment below, share with others in the IL2 community or throw some likes on this video and I'll do it. Hope this helps the IL2 community decide if motion is right for them.

Thanks Varibraun. I hadn't watched the one above to the end until you posted it and it does answer my question pretty comprehensively. There is a huge price difference between the P2/P3 and P6 and it appears the game wouldn't justify the extra cost, especially as bass-shakers more than adequately represent those few seconds of ground activity (taxying and take-off/landings).
In any case, the cost of shipping the units from Europe is $1200. Gulp.

The Brunner, that's currently being held in customs awaiting info from the seller (I guess they screwed something up on the documentation). Somebody posted in another thread here that it has over-heating issues (the FFB shuts down if the unit overheats, which apparently is a certainty in extended combat) which has pissed me off. Effectively, unless the forces are dialled way back, the unit is not fit for purpose. The shipping on that was $240 and won't be cheap to send back I guess. I don't know what goes through the minds of the sellers when they deliberately hide shit like that. I did do my research and watched a bunch of videos too, none of which mentioned anything at all about over-heating. Once I put that into new searches a bunch of info came up, including from one guy who sent his back for a refund after having his FFB cut out repeatedly in the middle of combat. The base of the thing is a steel box that doesn't even have vent-holes in it, never mind active cooling (which it clearly needs). And they're charging how much for it?
Its other 'issue' (in terms of a motion rig) is the way it mounts. I guess it could be opened up so holes could be drilled in the bottom of the case, so it could be mounted the same way the Virpil does it but then goodbye warranty.

In other news, I ordered the Pico4, which arrived yesterday. What a god-awful fit. Lol. So I immediately ordered the AMVR mask (and BOBO VR P4 head-strap and battery mod), which are arriving today and hopefully will make the thing wearable for longer than ten minutes. In terms of view...meh, it's all right but not the quantum-leap I was expecting over the G2. Funnily enough I was testing it on my 8600k/RTX3080ti and somehow had it in my head I was on the new rig (13900k/RTX4090) and was thinking 71fps, momentarily down to 35fps, was "ok". That's with everything maxed-out in the graphics. I was getting micro-freezes though and I don't think that was down to the headset or wifi connection as it does the same while playing on the monitor (3840x2160). Also on the new rig, on a pissy little 1920 monitor. I think it might be due to having my plane run on auto-pilot though.

I'm going to think long and hard about the P3 motion-rig. First thing will be testing the Brunner, as keeping that might preclude going for the P3.

Just tested the Pico on the new rig, wifi connection, superb performance. I have it set at 75hz and it was rock-solid fps. No stuttering, freezing, ghosting, just flawless.

The resolution...not great. Or at least no better from what I remember of the G2. Inside the cockpit is superb but planes around 300m+, a bit 'blurry'. But as a stop-gap until the Pimax Crystal, more than good enough. :)

Glad to hear that the Pico is up and running, and I hope your Brunner cooperates too!

I am still holding out with the G2 until the Crystal (or maybe the Deckard) actually shows up.  On the motion rig, I was hoping that the Yaw2 might be an answer, but they have been so slow in production that even our Kickstarter gang here haven't seen one yet that I have heard about.  So, I have been following the DOF rigs with interest, but that will have to follow a new headset for me.
