parkerc341 Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Will the artillery spotting mechanics from FC ever be implemented into the GB careers? It'd be cool to be able to fly a UV2 and spot german camps and buildups and such. 1 4
R33GZ Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Agreed. I would definitely buy the U2 if arty spotting was implemented... could also open up an option for an L4/5 for the allies too ? 1
migmadmarine Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 I did a suggestion maybe a year ago for a set of liaison collector planes (L-4, Storch, Auster) to take advantage of this mechanic, and hopefully maybe some officer shuttling and visual recon missions, so you have my support.
jeanba Posted April 7, 2023 Posted April 7, 2023 (edited) The hurricane was also used as artillery spotter by the Soviet: The RAF used also it for Artillery Spotting such as N 63 squadron in 1944: https://www.facebook.com/BBMF.Official/photos/hurricane-lf363-was-built-at-the-hawker-factory-at-langley-near-slough-it-first-/1665518086836531/ I think there was also Commonwealth artillery spotters in Italy (need to check, there was an article in aerojournal) Edited April 7, 2023 by jeanba
Juri_JS Posted April 7, 2023 Posted April 7, 2023 I am not sure if the U-2 really saw much use in the spotter role. The aircraft types I see in VVS spotter units are mostly Su-2s, Hurricanes, P-40s, Il-2s and Yaks. As far as I know U-2s were only used for spotting at night.

I modded the 20lb Cooper bomb as a 300seconds smoke bomb for target marking in the mountain jungle of Papua New Guinea (Kuban). I plan to implement some AI controlled forward observer biplanes in the Easy Mission Generator Template, because the targets in the jungle are for a human pilots more or less invisible. But the bomb works too when the plane is flown by the player.

Bad_Luna Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 (edited) How do we get the devs on this? This would be such a cool mechanic that can make a more dynamic multiplayer experience. First you tell the arty your ready to correct their fire. Then you walk their fire towards the target. It creates a high risk high reward mechanic. Edited June 11, 2023 by Bad_Luna

Bad_Luna Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 Christ i literally saw the blog but i only skimmed it. Well if its a mechanic they built in now maybe it can be used else where. nice. 1
