(solved) Game not working since update

Since last update, the game no longer works for me.

 

It starts up fine, but in the main menu I don't have mouse control. I can get mouse control by using alt-tab to make IL2 my active window (even though I don't see why it wasn't the active window when I started it up). Then I can move the mouse, but I can't click on any of the menu items.

 

This happens both in normal mode and in VR mode.

 

When I exit the game with Alf-F4 or with the task manager, it won't close down properly, Steam tells me it's still running. IL2 is no longer running in the task manager. The only solution for this seems to be to restart my PC.

 

A local file verification through Steam came up with 4 files that needed to be replaced, but this didn't fix the problem.

 

Any ideas?

My game kept freezing, with no mouse, no exit,  and requiring a hard reset to get back to the desktop.

 

2210 (!) files failed to validate, and one more file after those (I did a new check without launching the program after the first one).

 

Now the game runs ok.

I'm glad it worked out for you. Unfortunately, no such luck here.

 

I've tried:

- Complete reinstall of the game in Steam;

- Removing the startup.cfg and validating;

- Removing the input folder and validating;

- Changing the startup.cfg to start up in fullscreen mode rather than windowed like I was;

- The Nvidea Studio drivers (rather than the gaming drivers);

- Disabled the Steam overlay;

- Installed to a new drive. The login screen worked, after I logged in the mouse stopped working again;

- Changing the USB port for the mouse

- Tried a non-Steam install

- Ran as administrator

- Checked for new mouse drivers (they're up to date)

- Tried a different mouse

- Used the task manager to turn off all Oculus tasks running in the background

 

Any more ideas please? I'd hate for IL2 to be a complete writeoff just when I got talked into joining some shady squadron

Super srry.

I recall couple years back a  similar frustrating event.  In the end not eve sure how i got it working again but i think it had to do with folder security/permissions...had to go throught the install and change it manually for all files/folders.  Probably not your issue, just reaching...

Is your game in C/program files/... etc? Move it uot to another (own) folder or HDD and try.

Thanks for the ideas folks, in the end a complete windows reinstall and update to Windows 11 solved it...let's hope it stays that way!
