gloguthrox Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 Hi, I have been playing Il-2 for a couple weeks. I've been flying planes by downloading a virtual joystick driver, and using my mouse as a joystick. I decided to invest in an actual flight joystick, and it arrived today. Plugging it in, it doesn't seem to be recognized. My mouse still acts as a joystick but the actual joystick doesn't do anything when I look in pitch responses. I uninstalled the virtual joystick and restarted my computer. Still no fix. I don't know if this is a common problem or if someone's had this issue before? Any kind of help would be appreciated. Thanks
Sokol1 Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 Need go to controls and assign the new joystick axes and buttons for desired functions.
Ghost666 Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 Make sure to go to "settings/Input devides" and check the joystick box.

When I do that, my mouse still acts as the joystick rather than the actual joystick itself. If I try to change the pitch control for example, the game will respond to the mouse but not the joystick.
Ghost666 Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 As I said above have you changed your primary control from mouse to joystick?
Dawson Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 What do you see in the Windows joystick calibration applet (joy.cpl)? Is your joystick there and functional? Is your virtual joystick also there? Is the joystick working correctly in other games?

I don't really have any to try it with. 22 hours ago, Ghost666 said: As I said above have you changed your primary control from mouse to joystick? Yes
Sokol1 Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Try rename the file "Devices.txt" in ... \IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\input

Team Fusion Buzzsaw Posted April 4, 2023 Team Fusion Posted April 4, 2023 Hello gloguthrox First of all... are you playing CLIFFS OF DOVER - BLITZ and DESERT WINGS - TOBRUK or one of the GREAT BATTLES games? If you are playing GREAT BATTLES, you are on the wrong forum. If you are playing BLITZ/TOBRUK, then do the following: - Right Click on on the Windows icon in your lower left corner. - Left click on 'Settings'. - Look over on the right side of the screen where it says 'Related Settings'. - Left click on 'Devices and Printers'. - Look for your old virtual joystick in the list of devices shown. - Right click on the virtual joystick and 'Remove Device'. - Look for your new joystick in the list of devices shown. - Right Click on the joystick and select 'Game Controller Settings'. - A new window box will pop up for Game Controllers... select/highlight your joystick. - Click on the 'Advanced' button and select your joystick as the 'Preferred Device'. - Now calibrate your joystick by clicking on the 'Properties' button and following the steps to calibrate. - Exit all. Your joystick should now be the preferred device, it should be calibrated, and it should be programmable in the game settings.

To be honest, I didn't think it mattered, sorry. Would I have to make a new forum post or would you still be able to try and help me? It would be appreciated. Thanks

There are three games treated in these forums, all three are different at 100% and really need to be treated differently. For your guidance, the three games are "IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946" (released in 2001), "IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover" (released in 2011), and "IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles" (released in 2013). For all questions about your Great Battles game, simply click on the "Great Battles" tab on the top of this page, and then choose the appropriate section for the question you xant to ask:

"Detect" don't implicates in "assign", you need go to Controls page and assign axis and buttons manually.
