1PL-Banzai-1Esk Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) Mine is on the way , just got my tracking number. As far as I know there is some compatibility issues at the moment. Can't wait to check out DCS and WT. Maybe get Elite beta as well. But what I'd like to see is RoF support or workaround. P.S. There is no support in BoS at the moment , maybe in the future. LLv34_Flanker Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 S! Devs need one too to get it working I guess.
1PL-Banzai-1Esk Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Exciting times ahead , I can sense more requests for BoS support to follow. Although I was surprised by YoYoSims review of Prague event when the reviewer said he wasn't impressed with Rift and had a felling like he's sitting in a miniature cockpit of a small plane. Another valid point was that 1:1 scale of movement makes it almost impossible to compete in a dogfight without breaking your neck . Now imagine RoF , Aces Falling server and Dr1 vs Camel furballs. It's a skill to follow it all with TrackIR without getting dizzy. Some Bristol bombing runs should be easier to comprehend
DD_bongodriver Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Just got mine. Any tips on how to make it work? Got mine today too, if you are having trouble it's probably the same thing I had to figure out, the runtime you have to download should be an exe file, mine wasn't so I just added the .exe extension and the software installed........it's awesome and positional tracking works while turning the head to check six just as you would in real life from a seated position.

I'm going to call you out on this. I just got mine a day ago and you claim that it works. Please do describe steps to get it working. Which SDK? Which firmware? Any mods to IL2BOS?
DD_bongodriver Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Oh, I didn't realise you meant getting it working with BOS, no as far as I know we can forget that idea, the devs are not going to give us any OR support until some time after release......if at all, I was having trouble getting the DK2 working at all because I couldn't figure out how to install the software.
sop Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 What does it work with?, getting more interested as time goes by.
DD_bongodriver Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 at the moment nothing, the DK2's have only just landed in the hands of devs so they need to update existing demos and games with the new SDK, the oculus utility has some small demo scenes to test it in and the results are good, the resolution is much better and screen door effect is barely noticeable (so it looks good for the consumer version to have it more or less eliminated) positional tracking is great and does work even with the head turned as if checking six in a seated position but you can get a slight loss of positional tracking if you really go OTT with the checking six, until existing titles update to the new SDK it won't be possible to give any opinions on how much better it is in game, hopefully not long now, some people are reporting using the DK2 with existing stuff but using workarounds that don't utilise the full features like positional tracking, the main consensus is the resolution is an improvement but some tweaking is needed in software to improve the low persistence.
LLv34_Flanker Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 S! Thanks Bongo for the insight. Seems I did the right thing ordering the OR consumer version, whenever it comes out In BoS that thing would be awesome to fly with.
JG27_Chivas Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 People have been able to make the DK2 work, with workarounds and positional tracking in DCS and elite Dangerous. People are particularly raving about elite Dangerous. My OR has taken two days to get from City of Industry CA to Los Angeles CA. Atleast Oculus sent it by USPS instead of UPS so I can avoid the criminal UPS brokerage fees.
71st_AH_Hooves Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I have it working well in DCS and OMFG! It really is nicw with the positional tracking. Anyone feel free to pm me for help getting the work arounds going.
ram0506 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Would be very nice of you lucky guys, with the OR DK2 already in their hands and working with DCS, to let us unlucky guys, with no OR at all, know, how the readability of cockpit instruments is and how about spotting other planes at far distances? Thanks!

Thanks! I wouldn't say DK2 is worth rating for that purpose, only the consumer version, DK2 is visually a significant improvement over DK1 and positional tracking is great, I still haven't sorted out the workaround for DCS.........it's really confusing me so I might be taking Hooves up on the assistance.
ram0506 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Thanks anyway! Not that I'm planning to purchase the DK2, I'm waiting for the consumer version, but would be interesting how good (especially considering the resolution/sharpness) the OR already is.

Not that I'm planning to purchase the DK2, I'm waiting for the consumer version, but would be interesting how good (especially considering the resolution/sharpness) the OR already is. Got it working in elite dangerous, compared to the DK1 it is a vast improvement, the quality of this new experience was like trying VR for the first time again, the better resolution made text previously hard to read very clear but it is not quite the level we want for serious competitive combat simming, but for the experience of being in a spaceship or just flying around it is simply awesome, I think it bodes very well for the consumer version with the likely bespoke high resolution screen it will get. 1
ram0506 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Thanks! That gives us hope for the consumer version!

Venom Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 What does it work with?, getting more interested as time goes by. WT announced DK2 support in their July 31st update! I'm sorry, but In this respect I must announce them as the winner. OR support is a game/sim MUST now - not only when the commercial version is out.
JG27_Chivas Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 WT may have quickly supported the DK2, but early reports are they haven't done a very good job. War Thunder’s First Pass at Oculus Rift DK2 Support Needs Work (video) http://www.roadtovr.com/ 1
LLv34_Flanker Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 S! Would that VorpX help to use OR in other games, worth getting it after OR consumer version is out?
1PL-Banzai-1Esk Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 WT is bit messed up in OR at the moment but it will get fixed soon. Can't wait to get my Dora in DCS , it should by fun. There is still problem with OR support in both of these games , but at least they try. Here BoS is shown using Oculus at the latest press event in Prague , but we can't get support for it. Based on what I've seen in DCS , I am convinced BoS would look amazing even with current Rift resolution.
1PL-Banzai-1Esk Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 It is a killer combo already , unfortunately we have to wait before we can witness it ourselves. There is some experimental Rift support in dev version of the game , as shown at the event in Prague. I would imagine it has no positional tracking yet but I would be happy just to be able to play now and fly around trying to shoot something. I was playing online last night , flying low over Stalingrad , shells exploding everywhere , smoke ,ruins , grain elevator , and I was thinking to myself that it would look fantastic in Rift. Even with it's low resolution we would get some great views. DCS works but there is little happening in it , BoS with it's easy quick mission editor , great visual effects of fire and smoke , flak , ground targets, blows DCS out of the water in terms of easy accessible and fun Rift experience.

sop Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 (edited) Quite frankly calling ATI drivers "utter rubbish" is simply not true , maybe back in the day say when a 9800pro was their flag ship and that's going back about ten years and I too have used both over the years, I had 2 8800gtxs die on me in 6 months, that arguement is poppycock also, all units whatever the brand get a bad batch its a lottery when it come to hardware. sop Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) UMM we are a going a bit off topic so this my last comment on the matter, AMD do have official profiling software now if that's kind of thing that floats your boat, http://www.amd.com/en-us/markets/game/downloads/raptr Personally never have had open gl problems with older games while using amd cards Games crashing could be anything related to your build and I mean no offence by that. Unless 1c/777 confirm that 85% stat I will presume you just pulled it from your hiney for giggles The only place I see where Nvidia software is better than AMD at this moment in time is when it comes to SLI verse Crossfire, SLI is definitely a more mature base, although Crossfire is more flexible as it does not need two of the exact same branded cards to function like SLI requires. kthxbye Edited August 6, 2014 by sop
