"Failed To Update"

The software is giving me this message on the opening screen "Failed To Update" and then I can go no further. Ddoes anyone know why this is happening? I have a substantial amount of money invested at this point and dont want to lost my ability to play the game either. Any suggestions would really be appreciated.

 

And sorry if this topic appears someplace else. I did search and found nothing.
