Matt Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Red Baron -> B-17 Flying Fortress -> 1942: The Pacific Air War -> Flying Corps -> Jane's USAF -> IL-2 -> ROF -> CloD (doesn't mean that the successor actually replaced the predecessor in the above cases, i still fly IL-2 for instance)
SYN_Haashashin Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) First was an amiga 2000 WWI game, Wings I think is was called (I was really young), B-17 Flying Fortrees, Flying Corps, EAW, tried CFS 3 and B-17: The Mighty Eight then a big gap untill I discovered RoF, a very lil il2:46 and now waiting for BoS. Edit: Just checked it and yes first sim was Wings for amiga 2000, gotta love those floppy discs . Dont know if a flying sim per se, but also played a lot of wing commander, I guess all thoes young years somehow have an influence on me liking so much RoF and Star Citizen (planning onbuying something now that I can affort it). Guest deleted@1562 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) Started "simming" on the C64 with Microprose Gunship. Then all the classics from Microprose on C64, Amiga and DOS. Falcon on Mac, Falcon3, Lynx, DI Hind, EF2000, TAW, Falcon4, European Air War, Janes F15, F18, IL2 from 2001- spring 2011, then CloD until fall 2011. DCS for the last 2 years. steppenwolf Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Growing up it was Red Baron, Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, then Aces Over Europe. I got out of games for a while then found IL2 1946 a few years back. Now it's ROF.
Fedec99 Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 i've played a lot Cfs3 but i already play il-2 CoD and RoF
TheBlackPenguin Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 A 747 sim on the BBC Micro (fly a triangle to land on another triangle), then Gunship on C-64 I think it was, progressed all the way through to Battle of Britain, played a little Il2 long after it was released, played mainly X-Plane/FS9x flightgear etc until ROF.
Trooper117 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Of course it's IL2... Bought everything they put out, the expansions, the user produced stuff too! Oleg and his team where gods to many, lol! But hey ho, they gave me many, many hours of living my little fantasy of being a WWII pilot
Sturmgeschultz Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I played Red Baron and IL2 sense I was in high school. When ROF came out I dropped all flight sims for it. IL2 was getting aged by that time and WWI has always been more interesting to me. Now Ive been waiting for a new WWII flight sim. My dreams came true with my two favorite titles working together.
Blooddawn1942 Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I bought my copy of vanilla IL-2 back in 2001, one month after its initial release. Played it for a couple of years all the way until the introduction of 1946. Prior to that I played European Air War, Jane's World War II Fighters and some other sims (including Dawn Patrol on my sister's Amiga - anyone remember it?). :-) I still own the biography of Richthofen which was delivered with Dawn Patrol. I also had the Amiga version. I loved this one.
VA_NAVY Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I have played most Combat Flight Sims, Chuck Yeagers Air Combat and Harrier on the MAC, IL21946 ,CFS3, ROF ,DCS, Falcon,Targetware, CLODhopper, Wings of Prey, and War Thunder. 3 Favorites are the now dated 1946, ROF and War Thunder. Having!!!!! k-niption!!!!! fits waiting for BOS.
Trooper_Thorn Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) I currently play ROF, Mechwarrior Online, World of Tanks, Star Trek Online, War Thunder open Beta, World of Warplanes open beta (Not impressed with 3rd person flight), IL2 all add-ons included, Red Baron Gold, Mig alley, Flying circus, F118, F22, F-16, Jane's Fighters, Bomber command, Battle of Britian, Pacific Air war DOS. I have flown about every flight sim that came out. I remember clouds being a flat strata you flew through. If Microprose made it I flew it starting with DOS flight sims up to today. I am trying to save up to get the premium version had some things come up unexpectedly and my game money had to be used so I have most of it now just will have to get it around the first of October. NonWonderDog Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 No one else started with SWOTL? I still remember the music and the suicidal airfield attacks. That and waiting in the cockpit for twenty minutes at max time accel so the V1s would actually hit. I think I basically went SWOTL->Flight Unlimited->IL2->RoF, with a brief detour in one version of Falcon 4.0 or another.
6./ZG26_Emil Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 The first sims I played were Gunship and F19 on the Commodore 64 more than 25 years ago lol
Cybermat47 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 (edited) I started off with Blazing Angels, then moved into proper Simulators with IL2 1946 (on 0-10% realism ), then a few years later my interest was sparked again by IL2 Birds of Prey and Birds of Steel, and a few years after I lost interest in those I got the F2P Rise of Fight. And here I am EDIT: And somewhere along the line I played Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3, somewhere between Blazing Angels and IL2 1946 I think. Edited September 20, 2013 by Cybermat47
MolotoK Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Red Baron II/3D -> (very little) IL2 -> Targetware (Richthofen's Skies, Target Tobruk) -> WW2Online/Battlegrounds Europe -> Rise of Flight -> ???I think I have the most vivid memories from Richthofen's Skies because of its sense of realism and WW2Online because you felt like your missions actually had an impact on the people fighting the ground war.
322Sqn_Dusty Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Flying all sorts from F19 fs etc the first il2 came along. With all expansions and mods it's still besides CloD.
Trooper_Thorn Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 (edited) My first pc was the Hundai Super 16 TE before 286, I still have copies of Microsoft combat flight simulator 1, 2 and 3. As I said earlier every flight sim (or quasi) that has come out over the years. I have owned with the exception of a couple, I simply could not get my hands on them or they were not available in the US market. The Microsoft Flight Sim with civilian aircraft I never got because it was not combat aircraft. I prefer WW1 & 2 aircraft up to the early jets because you have to dog fight. Modern era fighters and bombers are to me get lock and shoot not a whole hell of a lot of challenge. I have a lot of flight hours in ROF and it by far is the best WW1 flight Sim ever on the market and believe me I have flown them all with the stipulation I made before. With what I have seen in ROF leads me to high expectations for IL-2. Edited September 21, 2013 by Trooper_Thorn
Funkwagen Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 EAW -> IL-2. Dabbled a little in Falcon 4.0 and DCS but modern stuff just doesn't capture my interest. Too many buttons, MFDs and switches for me to comprehend
senseispcc Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I fly the two simulation but my heart is more on the IL2 side if I must be entirely honest!
KaC_Furias Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 red baron 3D ---> ROF WWII fighters ( janes) ; CFS I , II, III ; EAW - IL2 .
Rjel Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Started on LucasArts BoB:TFH. A lot in between that and the original IL-2.
Speckfire Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Flew mainly IL-2 sturmovik series from the start.
dkoor Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Voted last. Came here from IL-2 and RoF. Bought CLoD but it failed quite miserably to live up to my expectations. Played that one about 10hrs or so. Greatest shame. Apart from being somewhat hardware demanding... I feel CLOD is also utterly complicated and true user enemy like it was made to be elitistic but in turn it achieved only over-complication on most things.
Szatanshow Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 (edited) I only gona mention few most memorable for me - there were way more ofcourse. Ace vs Ace -> Wings -> Janes WWII Fighters -> Red Baron -> Red Baron 2 (brilliant game i even kept my old pc just for playing it)-> USAF ->Enemy Engaged Rah66 Comantche vs KA52 Hokum ( just for KA-52 Hokum)-> IL2 with all expansions -> Rise of Flight -> CLOD (unfortunately the biggest failure of Epic IL2 Series) ->War Thunder (well just for relaxation not for simulation) ->and now BOS Edited October 10, 2013 by Szatanshow
Drum Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Started flying "Air Warrior" on GEnie before the internet come out. GEnie was $4 per hour, but Data Pack was required to connect with GEnie which was an additional $6 per hour for a total of $10, total. Spent around $1,000 a month running a squad called JG 3 "Udet". In large furballs, we had to switch between two bias settings with a macro as the game would only allow for the ten closest aircraft to be visible, it had a friendly and enemy bias so you could tune in the side you required visible. I'm going to feel really spoiled flying this sim, Horrido! ;-)
NightFalcon Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 IL-2 series, I couldn't find any better WWII flight sim.
Crazedmoon Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 cfs2 -> il2 -> (break for about 4 years) -> WT -> ordered BoS. I'm relly excited about getting back into a combat sim again!
thx1138 Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I have been playing ROF since the US release of ROF. I am almost exclusively a multiplayer flight simmer. I have had very limited experience with IL2 1946 in offline mode. I have never played IL2 1946 multiplayer. I intend to play IL2 BOS and ROF, and support the purchase of addons made for both sims, for at least a decade. (or so long as these sims are made and supported) MJ Yeah, but with no Spad here what are you going to do lol
Karost Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I vote one for IL2 but not happy in COD happy to see old hand friends for IL2
Redwulf__68 Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I arrived via CFS1, some infrequent CFS2 & then IL2 since it took off. A few years off but a confirmed addict. There's some dalliance with War Thunder but I feel this may be the beginning of a new decade!
Dutch Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 A tiny little town called 'Mossley'. It's in Lancashire, England, for all you colonial types.
334th_L0C0 Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 CFS -> IL2 -> LOMAC -> IL2 -> COD -> BOS
=LD=4brkfast Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Red Baron 3d. Aces of the pacific. Battlefield 1942(hardly counts as sim, great none the less). Aces high 2(my first 'true sim'). Does warthunder count? (I say no). Il2 1946 for fun. Rise of flightis good, despite ww1 not being for me. Cliff's team fusion mod, really fun, just five years late. This game is gonna bring together a lot of different communities. Cant wait
CPSWolff Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Played them all, but only IL-2 was a keeper for me...for over 10 years now I believe.
Feathered_IV Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Il-2 since 2002, with RoF on top of that since it first came out.
The-Mysteron Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 (edited) Il 2 from the start ,packed that in about 3 years ago. 1 years break got into ROF 8 months ago and CLOD 4 months ago. Edited November 22, 2013 by 5./JG27Meyer
-MG-Cacti4-6 Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 I never really got into RoF because of how difficult it was. I Never played IL-2 because when it came out i was always deployed or training while in the US military so i never really had time. I do spend a lot of time these days in DCS, War Thunder, and Falcon 4 BMS
