JtD Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 (edited) I've gotten curious - how many around here have previously been playing or are possibly still playing Rise of Flight and / or Il-2 Sturmovik before they arrived at this place? Edited July 28, 2013 by JtD
WildBlueYonder Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 I bought my copy of vanilla IL-2 back in 2001, one month after its initial release. Played it for a couple of years all the way until the introduction of 1946. Prior to that I played European Air War, Jane's World War II Fighters and some other sims (including Dawn Patrol on my sister's Amiga - anyone remember it?). :-)
Bearcat Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 You forgot to mention just IL2.. I came from IL2 basically not IL2 and CoD .. and I still fly IL2 daily. Every day for at least 15 minutes. I bought IL2 in 2002 just before the release of CFS3. Previously I had been flying on the Zone in CFS 1 and I was one of those guys who saw that CFS 3 trailer and thought that I was going to get a great product.. Not even close.. After I bought IL2 I just never looked back.. I think I came to IL2 just before the second patch.. 1.2 .. I have RoF but I have never flown it online .. I like it but I am just not a WWI guy.. I really just do not like the theater.. I really don't like jets beyond Korea either. I had Lock On and I have BS .. but they just don't move me like the muscle props ......... 1
707shap_Srbin Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Flying Corps Gold > WarBirds:Free Host > Il-2 > here I am.
crossfade Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 everything since microprose f15 on the 48k spectrum some played more than others but since 2001 it has mostly been il2 a fair bit of lock-on, strike fighters,i got rise of flight and had a go but never really got into it i think i have it stored in the attic and i may give it another go before the new il2 comes out. 1
AA_Engadin Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Jane's WW2 Fighter -> EAW -> IL2 -> here I am Same track up to here! AA_Engadin
Mirtma Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 IL2 was my first step in flight simulation. Now playing more ROF than IL2-1946.
DD_Reggie Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Microsoft CFS 1,2 -> EAW -> IL2 -> CLOD to here for WW2. Over Flanders Fields -> ROF for WW1. Although I have, and do fly both IL2 1946/CLOD and ROF, I definately have spent more time in the IL2 series, or WW2 Theatre than WW1, mainly just down to lack of time to do both equally
AX2 Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 (edited) First Spectrum 64 K Then The Dam Busters - PC Game 1985 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGy9wJI5ogs After... I tried all WWII sims, I think.. Mainly IL2 and now ROF Edited August 2, 2013 by Mustang
JtD Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 Thanks for the participation. So we're a little Il-2/CloD heavy, but many who play RoF as well. What I found interesting, something the poll does not show, is that initially Il-2 only was far ahead - indicating that the most active/frequent forum members (first to cast their vote) come from that side.
Heywooood Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) IL2--->{ DCS- RoF- FSX }---> BoS CloD last week for less than a week - with the ATAG mod - uninstalled - forgotten Edited August 4, 2013 by Heywooood
Skoshi_Tiger Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Flew the Camel in the original MS Flight Sim, Chuck Yeagers Air Combat and SWOTL and many others in between.
JaMz Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 CFS, (solo) - WWOnline (JG52) - iL2 (AFJ) - CLoD (AFJ)..been deployed a year now and just about to return, looking forward to my new purchase to be released
SOLIDKREATE Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 My gateway drug was Combat Flight Simulator 3.
Volkoff Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 (edited) I have been playing ROF since the US release of ROF. I am almost exclusively a multiplayer flight simmer. I have had very limited experience with IL2 1946 in offline mode. I have never played IL2 1946 multiplayer. I intend to play IL2 BOS and ROF, and support the purchase of addons made for both sims, for at least a decade. (or so long as these sims are made and supported) MJ Edited August 6, 2013 by MishaJames

ACG_Suardi Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 (edited) I came from both, IL2 was amazing when it was designed, but now I'm flying only in RoF. Edited August 6, 2013 by rcsuardi
RaFiGer Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Flying in the beginning with the good'ole IL2, than satring my little webpage enjoying IL2-1946 and all the mods, than Cliffs of Dover and now waiting for Autuum to enjoy my wifes home area at Volgograd in real flight simulation Good to be keen again on IL2 :D Greetings from Germany and (partly) Russia RaFiGer
VoodooGT Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I started with Red Baron 3D. Went on to fly Jane's WWII, Microsoft CFS, iL2, Lock-on, RoF, CLoD and lastly DCS World. Currently, I have been flying RoF most of the time and plan to switch between RoF and BoS once it comes out.
SYN_Speck Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Started out with IL2 in 2005. Really enjoyed it until the advent of mods. After that, the time & effort required to keep my install compatible with various servers, mod packs, and patches eventually pushed me away. WWI is very interesting to me anyhow so I went with ROF as soon as it came out. I had high hopes for CloD but it never did run with stability on my system, and after umpteen hours trying to get it to work my cost/benefit analysis showed FAIL and I pulled the plug. BoS is looking very promising. I hope ROF survives, though, as I certainly plan to continue with it too. I love the slow/ugly birds!
I/JG27_Rollo Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Started out with EAW (<3), Jane's WWII and Red Baron 2, then IL-2 from the very beginning up until today with some CFS3 and a fair amount of RoF and CoD...
SYN_Ricky Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Il-2 was the first sim that I played online, before that I played most flight sims that came out on the Amiga, then got my first PC and played mostly RBII and EAW. When the mods started in Il-2 most people in my former squad quit and the squad disbanded. I bought ROF a few month after it came out and played it until now except for a few hiatuses where I stopped playing completely for personal or technical reasons Bought CloD and played it quite a bit despite what happened to it... BOS is looking great and seeing how ROF evolved I have high hopes that it will be the same, with even more players coming from Il-2.
ATAG_Slipstream Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 EAW,Flying Corps Gold, il2 (2001-2011) RoF (got bored quick ) CoD, BoS, ... The glory days for me were il2, squad flying in online wars for thousands of hours, still trying to recapture that feeling in the newer games. 1
ThudThunder Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 ROF, interesting to see all the new "faces" here
Sokol1 Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 You forgot to mention just IL2.. I came from IL2 basically not IL2 and CoD .. and I still fly IL2 daily. Every day for at least 15 minutes. Good point, should by separated il-2 and CloD. In my case I only fly daily in CloD at about ~1 year. Sokol1
15[Span.]/JG51Costa Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 (edited) Jane's WW2 Fighter -> EAW -> IL2 -> here I am Same track up to here! AA_Engadin Same here too, but before: SDoE (Screaming Demons over Europe) MSCFS1, MSCFS2 and then MSFS3 for a couple of hours in my HD. And then CLoD +TF P.S: I really enjoyed WW2 Fighters with the Swing music intro movie. Edited August 11, 2013 by 15[Span]/Costa
VBF-12_Gosling-71 Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Air attack > (CFS3 but didn't get on with it at all) > IL2 > Back to air attack until Pacific Fighters > IL2:1946 UP > RoF > IL2:1946 HSFX > IL2:CoD - Now All 3 (IL2:1946 HSFX / IL2:CoD / RoF in that order of priority)
BeastyBaiter Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Aces over Europe. Seroiusly though, I played the IL2 series from 2001 to around 2007, DCS BS till RoF, RoF to present but also play WT a fair bit (no, I do not feel dirty seal clubbing mouse aimers).
Jaws2002 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 (edited) I think I've played all PC sims released in the last 14 years at one point or another. From mmo sims, like Warbirds, Aces High1,2 and ww2 Online, to boxed games like Jane's ww2 fighters, CFS1,2,3, Il-2, Targetware, FSX with tons of payware, DCS, ROF, CLOD and War Thunder. I've probably played them all. The one I've played the most is Il-2 though. I started with it during the first demo, in late 2001 and I still have two versions on my PC that I play from time to time. No other game captivated me like that. Edited August 14, 2013 by Jaws2002
=IRFC=Tunes Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron (Sheesh, I was six, relax...) --> CFS 3 --> IL2 '46/Aces High II -->RoF (Mainly, but also quite a bit of DCS and a little War Thunder) --> BoS
Tone71 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Ignoring my old Atari ST days, started with IL-2, and all expansion packs up to and including 1946, then moved over to RoF and DCS; bought and tried CLoD but just didn't get on well with it. RoF has currently taken a bit of a back seat, playing mostly DCS. Looking forward to getting back into the WWII era, which is where I prefer to be.
