SR-F_Winger Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 Will keep my Preorder up dafinately and try out this thing myself. Now lets hope they get it ready soon.
Broadway Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 (edited) much still not resolved. 1. Battery life , needs a battery to run it , what will it do in real life, with eye tracking enabled . IMO needs to be 3+ hours and needs to have at least a 2 min swap out battery life on the internal battery 2. Eye tracking , STILL not ready , does or will IL2 allow DFR , or will it run at Driver level and hence on any suitable game , this is a big one for me, as frame rates could be improved significantly (10%++) by good implementation of this technology 3. Price point , seems to be high (i know lower than Aero) for technology not needed in IL2 - ie standalone 4. Build quality , looks OK but i fear (no evidence though) it may not be as good as current price point dictates 5. Availability - now 3 months late and counting , i m guessing they need to have a good response to Q1 and Q2 before any mass launch All that said i still hold a reserve on one , pre ordered on 2nd day, only Eur30 , so hopeful on Crystal , and maybe Aero 2, or new Valve HMD ! [CPT]Crunch Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 Meh, I'll wait for the 12K and see if they can do that one right for PC. Another fool follows the Zuker off to meta land cliff and obscurity, WTF are they thinking with all that power on batteries and untethered, what a waste. 1 2

It's the maker of the chip for the tracking bit, it has to be powered by battery. Maybe the alternative was too much more expensive or who knows. But six hours if the battery is connected to the charger, surely that's long enough for a good session? Will be for me, plus the battery is hot-swappable. Edited March 21, 2023 by Hetzer-JG51
Broadway Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 6 hours based only one report for battery life, and that is for a brand new battery, better take 75% of any new battery as being the norm , also no eye tracking enabled for 6 hours , so i hold judgement , however it does all point to a realistic 3+ hours , so just about OK IMO . Also no one has tested the swap out time , i need time to switch on auto level , take HMD off and then switch , i d like 2 mins for this but has to be min of 45s IMO to allow for mistakes, i d hate to crash the game on a battery swap! 1

I don't trust Pimax after my past experiences and I'm not sure that I will trust them to provide long-lasting and durable batteries, or, more importantly, to provide replacements in a timely fashion if needed.

Not to worry, they got the designer of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 batteries on the team - it'll be quick and painless.
[CPT]Crunch Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Tesla fire in your hair line, good luck with that.
