Bf 109 - Canopy & 20mm Gun Pods

Recommended Posts

I can't seem to open the canopy on my Bf 109s while in flight to bail out. Works on Allied aircraft, works in the 110, and works on my 109 when I'm on the ground, but never in the air. I get a message Hatch Door: Open but it's still closed. Any idea why, or what I'm doing wrong?

Also, I can't find or select the Bf-109F-4/R1 (with underwing 20mm gun pods).

From Steam (current):

Complete list of new Flyable aircraft for DESERT WINGS - TOBRUK:
 .....
Bf-109F-4 (DB601E 1.30ata) (also the Tropical Version)
Bf-109F-4-Late (DB601E 1.42ata) (also the Tropical Version)
Bf-109F-4/R1 (DB601E 1.42ata, underwing 20 mm gun pods) (also the Tropical Version)
Bf-109F-4Z (DB601E 1.42ata + GM-1 Injection) (also the Tropical Version)

Instead I can select the F-4 Derated version, not the R1 version.

Was TFS's "fix" removing & replacing the R1 version?

1) Opening in flight the canopy before the jump, this is the method in aircraft like the Hurricane or the Spitfire. In a Bf 109 as soon as you try to open the canopy, because it's side-oriented, the air pressure closes it again, or simply keeps it closed. In a Bf 109, and in German planes in general, you have a red lever for jettisoning the canopy. Go to the controls and map a key, button or any combination for the "jettison the canopy" control.

2) As a subvariant of the Bf 109, the Bf 109 F-4/R1 is an item in the lists of available aircraft in "War Thunder" (for example), but it's not one of the 94 flyables (as items ion the official lists) that you'll find in Blitz/Tobruk. Nevertheless the R1 is in the game, obviousely. You simply need to select a Bf 109 F-4 (tropical or not, you decide), choose the 20mm gun pods in the weapons & load settings... and here you have it, you are ready to take off on board one brand new Bf 109 F-4/R1...

Good luck...

Thanks, I had been trying to use "Open Canopy" and "Bail Out" but the jettison works for both.  Unfortunately, that's another example of the UI not quite being as user-friendly as I would have hoped.

I found the R1 - I should have looked closer:

Well, in planes with no jettison system, first you need to open the canopy, and then bail out. In planes equipped with a jettisonable canopy, you first jettison the canopy by pulling the lever, and then you bail out.

No no, the "Cliffs of Dover" UI is friendly with you if you are friendly with it... :)
