chiliwili69 Posted March 16, 2023 Author Posted March 16, 2023 Guys, I know PVSR2 only works in VR with PS5, so it is not a VR headset valid for IL-2 . Perhaps in a very distant future if someone hack it. But I just want to give you my impressions about the PSVR2 as the VR headset itself. Just after 90 minutes playing Horizon Call of Mountain. Executive Summary: - Most likely I will return it tomorrow - Index (or G2 or Pico4 or even VivePro2) is much better overall. Good things: - Vivid colors, true blacks, (expected from OLED displays) - Eye tracking. Works very well. - Easy to configure IPD and overall PSVR2 setup - Tracking was good and haptic feedback - Regulation of distance to lenses - Sound solution works ok. Bad things: - Halo design. In order to have it as fixed as possible you have to put too much pressure in the halo, after 60 minutes it is really annoying - Rotational Inertia. Turn head left&right or up&down quickly. There is slack. Even the headset is light - Performance: I notice a microsttutering in big robots when they move quickly - Level of presence: Even if the resolution is lower with Index, With the index I feel I am inside a plane. Here I am not fully convinced I am there. - Small Eye box: As soon as you look down or up, the headset is moved a little bit, so you are not in the right place on the lense and some blureness appear. For that price I think is a good headset for kids (avobe 12!) but I don´t think will be a serious headset for flight sims, even if one day is compatible with PC in full VR. 2
AngleOff66 Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 If anyone is interested, work is still being done to see if it is possible to have this work on a pc. I wonder if it would be better to send an email to a company that makes standalone head units and give them the shopping list i.e. fov, display port, eye tracking etc etc. It is like none of these companies really understand what the seated vr player wants in an hmd.
[CPT]Crunch Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 Release is a disaster, they planned on pushing out a quick 2 million units, have barely hit a quarter mill. This could have been a premier PC unit with its specs and capabilities. Price crash in aisle 5, send in a clean up crew. So much for proprietary controls, eh. Off to Meta Meta land.

Off to Meta Meta land. it has it's place. For IL-2, MSFS2020, and DCS, my 4090 and G2 are rock'n. But I sure love jumping on my PS5/PSVR2 for my non flight sim time. If some grad student manages to get it to work with a PC, cool. But I didn't buy it hoping for a PC deployment some day. I was really hoping for a G3, but I know that'll never happen at this point....
AngleOff66 Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 The amount of work being done is amazing. I saw some posts about using velcro straps to improve comfort. https://twitter.com/iVRy_VR/status/1664319385677316111?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^tweet
kestrel79 Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 I dig my PSVR2 for Gran Turismo 7. So many pretty cars to see in 3D it's amazing!
chiliwili69 Posted February 28, 2024 Author Posted February 28, 2024 Giving that there is not too much options for PC VR devices this is always welcome: https://www.roadtovr.com/pc-vr-steam-support-psvr-2-sony-ivry/
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted February 29, 2024 Posted February 29, 2024 (edited) Sony also announced PC support coming this year! This headset will become the updated and improved G2. I haven't tried it myself, but it has foveated rendering and eye tracking, OLED HDR screens, and much better IPD adjustments than the G2. Does have fresnel lenses so IDK if I'd go for it over the Quest 3. It also only needs one USB C type cable for display port (probably a Thunderbolt 4 equivalent). Rather ambiguous wording but I suppose we'll find out soon enough. Wouldn't surprise me if what they offer is a way to stream VR titles to the PS5 via Steam Link or something.

Would never buy gogles with frensler lenses. Production quality and technology is the key. Even Apple lenses are worse that meta lenses, but panels are better. kestrel79 Posted March 1, 2024 Posted March 1, 2024 I just ordered prescription VR Optician lenses for my PSVR2...I've been playing GT7 blind for the past year This is great news, as my Rift S is getting old would love to use my PSVR2 on PC. It's really easy to setup and use with one cable, and you plug it into the ps5 and it just works. Something VR needs more of. 1
chiliwili69 Posted June 4, 2024 Author Posted June 4, 2024 So now if you like OLED panels, for 60$ you can use PSVR2 device to play IL-2: https://www.roadtovr.com/sony-certifies-psvr-2-hardware-adapter-pc-vr-support/ It is always good to have more options. There are plenty of second hand PSVR2 for 400$. The major issue for me was comfort, but this is just personal.

Some of the factors that impact comfort are part of the design. For example, Sony increased the brightness of the headset at the expense of discomfort, by decreasing the time that the display is black between frames.
kestrel79 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Anyone try their PSVR2 yet with IL2? Curious how it looks and runs w/ DCS and MSFS. I don't think the adapters are out in the US yet but we're getting close.
