[80 years ago today] "• Italian aircraft carrier Aquila is nearing completion and is running her first engine tests. German technicians who had worked on Graf Zeppelin prior to her cancellation are assisting Regiamarina personnel in getting her ready. The Italians have stopped nearly all work on the Sparviero to allocate resources to Aquila.

- Training and tests are being conducted ashore with Reggiane 2001 and Bf-109T fighters, Ju-87C dive bombers, and Ar-96B trainers. The Germans and Italians agree that the Re-2001 is the most suitable aircraft for the carrier, but so far only ten fighters have been navalized. One Re-2001G is being tested as a fighter/torpedo bomber. Resistance from the Regia Aeronautica does not bode well for Aquila ever having a working air group.
