Problems with Extreme Sun Glare in Reverb G2?

I think I remember seeing some thread/posts about this somewhere here before, but for the life of me I cannot get the search function on these forums to return reasonable/relevant results, so hopefully someone here can steer me to it.  I was running a test mission for my newly-acquired MSFFB2 stick and for some reason was getting horrendous bloom/glare issues along my forward horizon (flying NE on the southern part of the Western Front map at 9:00 AM).  My in-game graphics settings are attached below.  IIRC, there was some particular setting or combination of settings that tended to make the sun glare issue less troublesome, but I can't remember what it was as I haven't had this issue before.

Any advice on how to tone this down?

LOL - turns out I had forgotten to check my startup.cfg file before launching the game, and it had turned bloom back on again.   I really wish it would stop doing that - very annoying to have to check that file every time I want to fly.

You can change the start file to read only. Doing so should stop bloom from changing back to on. You would need to take the file out of read only if you wish to make changes to the graphic settings at some future time.

Thanks - I'll probably do that once I've finalized my settings, but I'm still tweaking things a bit so I guess I'll have to try to remember to check for bloom every time for now.  Does make me wonder why they didn't make bloom a selectable option in the settings screen like they did with RoF though, and why they decided to default it on without warning whenever you make any changes to your settings.

Doesn't help atmospheric effects aren't modeled on the sun, no sun shines like noon at 9AM except in this game, even the sunrise and sets are at high noon glare levels.  A low angle sun has massive atmospheric light diffusion passing through several hundred miles worth of thick air as compared to a high noon sun with only a few thousand feet worth.

At least average the darn thing out, very annoying and an unfair advantage with locked in east to west online campaigns always beginning near or with sunrise.

Hmm - I wonder if the work I did for my lens flare/sun glare reduction mod that works for external views (adapted from bbob's pioneering work in RoF) could be tweaked to work on in-cockpit views - may have to check into that when I get back from my travels later this week.

I have struggled with the sun with every headset I have owned. I even emailed 1C Games and was told the sun is modeled correctly for realism. This is ridiculous. DCS has managed to have the sun function without it washing out half the view.

realism

Didn't you know pilots in WW2 came from a specific breed of people who could not lift their hands higher than the gunsight and had to be strapped in to planes with their eyelids taped open for maximum efficiency?

Right. I constantly feel the need to shield my eyes. I should I have said this to 1C Games!

This level of brightness seems real to me, or maybe even less so, at least compared to when I am driving toward the sun.  Of course, with a headset on you cannot shield your eyes, which I tend to instinctively try to do, banging my headset against my face.
