gn728 Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Just saw this - I don't have War Thunder, but some here might, just passing it on....Aces Of Thunder - cockpit only, VR only version of WT. Being billed as "Dedicated Flight Sim" - lol, one thing I did notice - its gotten almost 100K views in 10 hrs.... 1
Mysticpuma Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 (edited) From the makers of War Thunder it appears they are making a 'Sim' version of their software for PS5. Now, like most of you reading this, and having watched the video, it is likely going to be perfect arcade fodder in a so called 'Sim' environment but one has to live in hope ? That said, if it follows Wings of Prey, has a fun/sim environment, no microtransactions and last but not least no grind, then it may be a step forward for the PS5 ? (but I can 9nly hope ?) Trooper117 Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 It's definitely War Thunder graphics... I don't have VR or a playstaion so I'll never have a go on it, but I bet many of the WT crowd will be all over it.
CountZero Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 highly doubt it wont have grind or pay to not waist time WT have. now on to waiting for IL-2.0 to anounce consol move.
343KKT_Kintaro Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 (edited) Thanks for the news, Puma. A URL website is noted at the end of the video (www.acesofthunder.com), but the URL is not working. Pity... EDIT: by adding "www" before the domain name, they made a mistake at the end of the teaser. I just noticed that the correct URL is https://acesofthunder.com/ Edited March 11, 2023 by 343KKT_Kintaro
Mtnbiker1998 Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 A decent Sim-cade console experience (and in VR no less) is gonna be a good thing for the industry. A good stepping stone to get people into the genre and hopefully eventually into games like IL-2. I don't have a ps5 nor do I plan to get one, but I'm really glad that this is coming out! Bring on more flight sims to the market. 2 1

He doesn’t do flightsims, he doesn’t have a joystick but he does fly something called VTOL VR and loves it. I’ve tried it and it is….simplistic but it was built from the ground up for VR and it’s actually rather brilliant. I think this will be a hit. 1
Denum Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 (edited) If they ported to PC I'd be tempted. Huge aircraft selection, maps, theatres. Graphics are nice. It's simcadey but it has a lot to offer. Edited March 10, 2023 by Denum 2
simfan2015 Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 I just hope they would also bring it to PC VR on Steam. Pay once, Play All !(???) I realize there is WT, but that is a grinding-game.
kestrel79 Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 This could be pretty cool with the ps5's haptic feedback in the controller...if they do it right. Gran Turismo 7 has reallly good ffb in the controller. If they could make the VR controllers vibrate like you have your hand on a stick and throttle this could be really special, almost like a ffb stick. More shaking as you get closer to a stall, higher speeds that kind of thing. Like others have said this is a good thing, stepping stone to more hardcore sims on PC. Something that has been lacking the last 2 console generations. 1
simfan2015 Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Kestrel79... I tried using the VR Controllers with arcade flight sims and No man's sky in steam pc vr but can't get used to it. It might be me, but a flightstick!/ hotas is imho so much more suited for flight sims. Yes ffb is a nice Touch, that is without question.

They do have flight controls for ps5 In old days I flew happily along with those tv consoles when pc was not available. I really liked the mindset I had that time. Any game controlling a ac was just heaven. there was a game about ww1 graphics was just lines but control was a floor mounted stick. I spent all my money on it whenever I could. I was in heaven. now I choose less arcade, but with right mindset I am sure I could enjoy this. Edited March 11, 2023 by Lusekofte

If a PS 6, XboX 2... come along you simply have to upgrade ... everything to stay "in the game". FWIW I once had a PS 3 (bought it for Blu-Ray travel/documentaries, but played a few games on it and wasn't conviced at all) ... we all know how it went ... ! Edited March 11, 2023 by simfan2015

CountZero Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 ps1 was relised dec 1994 ps2 in mar 2000 ps3 in nov 2006 ps4 in nov 2013 ps5 in nov 2020 so around every 7 years predictions are ps6 would come in 2027 or 28 now how many ppl play sim games on PCs that are 7 years old, also for targeted demografic 7 years is eternity
Rei-sen Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 (edited) I have PS3 for Gran Turismo 5 and 6. They are like IL-2 1946 version of racing games. Edited March 11, 2023 by Arthur-A 1
Mtnbiker1998 Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 I wonder if this could be what finally pushes Microsoft to make a new Combat Flight Sim.. Could be a pretty damn impressive game given the tech we've seen in msfs2020
simfan2015 Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 Yes CountZero, 7 years is not the real issue, I agree. But still, I keep a PC for more then 10 years and with OS upgrades it keeps it's value. A Windows can do so much more than any console. I don't like a Wall around my computing hobbies (btw... which is also why I will never buy Apple).

kestrel79 Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Oh I'm right there with you. There's no replacing a stick or wheel compared to a controller. I'm just saying with the ps5's controller the potential is there to close the gap. Some games have really done a great job with the feedback...but most phone it in.
