Maybe those could be imported into BoS. They had the same horse drawn carts in WWII

If we keep the same mods system as ROF then ya that kind of stuff can be built. Won't know until we get to the final stage. Last I spoke to Loft about our mod system in BOS there were no plans to change it. Adding new scenery items in ROF is pretty easy.

They were 3D models in Il2 Forgotten Battles and subsequent expansions.

Low detail, very simple animation, but still adequate.

Took me quite a while to find a video. You can see in the video, they cast a shadow and everything.

Here is an old IL-2 video with animated soldiers, civilians and ground crew.

(This mod has never been released as far as I know)

And the answer by Zak is good news:

"Yes, we're working on infantry on the airfileds and in villages."

Look like Minecraft characters, but enough for a flight sim!

As has been pointed out already, this kind of stuff has already been done in ROF by Vander which utilizes our existing tech. There are stationary ground crew on the airfield, soldiers marching and horses pulling wagons etc. All of which can be seen in ROF if you use PWCG. Vander and Pat did an amazing job. Anything is possible given enough time and money which we don't always have.

I think most of us are reasonable enough that the possibility of it, even if it's months after release, will be enough. I think it's pretty exciting myself.

I remember those poor buggers running for their lives in the original IL2 series. It's one of those little details that adds a lot. I'm glad to see it will be added in some form to BoS.

Thiscould be so good! I loved the guys running for their lives in the original. Couldn't believe they'd dive for cover. If we can get some infantry and especially ground crew figures, even static ones, that would add immeasurably to the sim. It did so much for immersion in my old campaigns.

Yes, I hope to see stuff like this in BoS too.

Animated horses and spinning wheels by SYN_Vander:

That is fantastic work to code that. Bear in mind that the Germans started Operation Barbarossa with a large proportion of their army moving into Russia with horse power only.

Would be great to strafe convoys/trains and have all the infantry pour out.

Good news then.

It occurred to me that if there are more mobile figures in game, then the dog fighting would drop down too. Something about seeing your guys (like the above WIP IL2 video) getting attacked may want one to defend your boys more earnestly.

Poor horses, strafed by Russian on the way, eat be Germans at Stalingrad.

Yep - really made a difference from an immersion standpoint.

I'll believe it when I see it.

The number of vertex shaders you'd have to run for moving infantry is probably way more then the dx9 computers 777 is targeting can handle.
