slikslik Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 I'm a bit hesitant to download the free Win 11. I've read that VR games run horribly with Nvidia cards and some VR HMD units. on Win. 11. Is that what I can expect if I load Windows 11? Any 8kx and IL 2 sim owners here that can sort of guide me in the right direction? Should I stay with Win 10? Thanks all take care Eddie.
slikslik Posted March 2, 2023 Author Posted March 2, 2023 Nobody here with the 8kx and IL 2 with Win 11? I guess I'm staying with Win 10 until I find a member from this site able to tell me about any issues with Pimax VR, Nvidia drivers etc. Thanks again all...take care Eddie.
[CPT]Crunch Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 It'll depend on your hardware, if your running the latest CPU and memory it's more than likely worth it and you'll see benefit. It's always been that way. It works for me, zero problems.
slikslik Posted March 3, 2023 Author Posted March 3, 2023 Thank you very much for responding CPTCrunch. I have the Pimax 8kx connected to my MSI 3090, 11700K CPU, 32 gigs ram, 850 watt PSU all connected to the closed loop liquid cooling of my vid card and cpu . The only VR sim I play, is IL 2 Great Battles. No VR shooters etc. etc. So, my concern relates ONLY to IL 2, running on Wun 11, the 8kx and Nvidia cards and drivers. If you have a similar set up and with Win 11, please let me know if it's worth the time downloading 11. Thanks my friend take care Eddie.
[CPT]Crunch Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 3080 on a 11900K, zero issues, there were a few bugs on the earliest beta's near two years ago, but its been rock stable latest versions, no complaints. The only thing I didn't like was the cell phone style desktop which is easily nixed using 'open shell', setting it back to an older computer style windows interface. But than again I did the same in win 10, setting it up as XP style with open shell. Never used 10 on this system, so can't really give an overall comparison. No issues, runs stable, no complaints in VR performance.
slikslik Posted March 4, 2023 Author Posted March 4, 2023 Thanks CPTCrunch. I don't see any reason to load Win 11. I read at Guru 3D that they're working on Windows 12 already, so I might as well stay with 10.
blitze Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Running Win11 LTSC with the 8K-X on a rtx2080 (must upgrade soon). No issues after turning Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling off. It might be ok if you have GPU grunt but for me it induces studders if I push SS a little. The interface is more a Back to the Future MS style with the Windows Key popping up a Quick Launch App Window with recent files underneath it. I quite like it as it is quite easy to customise, icons are consistent size and one can just launch apps also via typing instead of reaching for the mouse. With Rufus, I was bypassing CPU, TRusted Computing and other silly requirements on my install USB. Anyway - Pimax works well on it and the LTSC is a relative clean version of Win 11 although you still run OOshutup to minimise Telemetry.
RAF56_Springer Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 Running 8Kx (@120hz) on windows 11 with 12900Kf @5.2mhz and RTX4090 oc'd. Custom Water-cooled loop. Still tweaking my settings, but graphics are outstanding. 1
blitze Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 Just a mention - although you probably don't require OpenVR FSR for your setup but Finding Pimax Client SS setting 1.25 with SteamVR at 70% with FSR rennderscale at 80% I am getting a very clean image at 75fps on y system with Il2 on High Graphics settings. Would love to have a modern power house to see what settings I could push my 8K-X at whilst running a good frame rate at. Both my CPU and GPU are under-volted.
