Not exactly the same. Eric Brown has some details in his memoirs. One difference being that the British preferred making actual „landings“, while the US felt it sensible to let the plane crash into the deck after the batsman gave the signal to cut the power after deeming the arriving plane at suitable location and altitude to do so. Needless to say that American aircraft tolerated such, as opposed to Spitfires with a tailhook.
