Why does the AI only shoot down bombers when they fly alone in Careermod ?

I have ventured back into the original career. I had already started a German hunter campaign there and wanted to finish it.
I tried out what happens when I send the AI on missions alone. I put the crews together and then send them on the respective missions.
To my great astonishment, the AI shoots down almost only bombers when it is on the road without me. The developers can't be serious.
There are not only bombers on the road during the missions (2mot).
When I'm on the move together with the AI, there's a lot of fighter fighting and, accordingly, shooting down.
I tried this method (letting the AI fly alone) to improve the AI. It works quite well this way.  After a few solo flights, they really do fight better when I am flying with them again.

Is there any way to change something about that? It's obviously only cosmetic.

As I said, the AI seems to get a bit better through the solo flights, although not outstanding.

I have noticed this also.  When they fly without me, they shoot down one large aircraft and never have any casualties.  But then I fly with them, we face overwhelming opposition and half or more of the flight perish.  I imagine that the squadron must hate flying with me!

I like to get this acknowled by someone knowing. I never heard  the ai learned by experience.
They might get a level or two better after a while , like start out as novices and end up as ace

Your squadron doesn't fly, if you are not flying. The results are scripted. This is the reason why it is more or less always the same results in AI only flights.

How effectively your squadmates are in bomber intercepts depends on your difficulty setting, your aircraft and the enemy fighters you encounter. In German BON fighter careers your squadmates often kill enemy bombers, when the enemy escort is done by P-47s, but they are crap, if you encounter Spitfires. When you see Spitfires attacking your flight, you know there will not be a lot of your squadmates returning to your base.

To be fair, the results on AI-only missions are affected by time of day, skill level of the pilots flying the mission, and ordnance chosen. But yes, things are still programmed a bit "odd" in that only Heavy planes are typically shot down on these mission types.
