A Little Nod To History...

If you've been following the news lately, you know that the US Air Force recently shot down a Chinese balloon off the coast of South Carolina. As far as I can tell this may be the first US balloon kill since WWI (at least a quick search of Google doesn't return any information about balloons being shot down after WWI).

The F-22s flying the intercept mission carried auspicious callsigns, Frank01 and Luke01, in honor of US WWI ace Frank Luke, Jr.

Kind of a neat little call back to WWI history that you probably never would have expected to see today.
