Bomb Fusing

Hey hey!  Can anyone help me understand how bomb fusing works in IL-2?

Back in the day we had problems with bombs not going off unless they were set to either instant/impact fuse or (I think) 5 seconds was the magic number.

Recently, I've noticed various instances where bombs fail to detonate.  I first noticed it with 1000kg bombs off the Ju-88C... I dive on target, drop one, then the other, pull out.

First detonates 100% of the time, second, maybe 70% of the time?  My first drop is always at a steeper angle than the second... and both are usually pretty low to the ground.  So at first I thought maybe it was some kind of mechanic where my second bomb is hitting flat and not engaging the fuse?  This has happened with 5 second and 10 second timers...

So last night, I lay a low-level string of 3x50kg bombs across some targets, and they all go off like it's their job:

(Stream has strong language/high-pitched screeching warning, but this clip is clean!)

So, was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on dropping eggs close to the deck, thanks in advance!

it was the case with german bombs, that if you  released too low they wouldn't go off no matter the fusing. But I don't know if that applies to your cases.

I noticed that too, last time I was flying a 110. Found I did more damage with the machine guns.

When I initially worked on applying the Ju 88 tank column spam bombing technique with the Pe-2 and A-20B, I found that when using a one-second fuse timer, the Axis bombs armed faster than the Soviet bombs. This was discussed here at the 10:28 time mark: Tank Busting: Ju 88 / Pe-2 / A 20B Ground Attacker Handbook Subsection 7.2 IL-2 Great Battles - YouTube     However, with a 5-second timer or longer, both Soviet and western Allied bombs will arm and detonate even when dropped a few meters from the ground target, while the Axis bombs will not: Shallow Attack Dives DO NOT WORK With Axis Aircraft : IL-2 Great Battles - YouTube

Man, thank you SO much!! This really makes things make more sense now... we end up flying whichever side need bodies, so I get a lot of early war Soviet bombing and a lot of late war German bombing, I thought I was going crazy because we drop in IL-2s just like you showed here.

Thank you, again, will change tactics accordingly.
