danielprates Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 CAEN and CANNES sound the same in french isn't it? I feel there is possibly a pythonesque joke to be written here, somehow. No time to lose!
PB0_Roll Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 Nope, they don't sound same at all. Caen sounds same as can in canteen. Cannes sounds same as can in I can. I appreciate good news about new campaign, thanks a bunch ! Now awaiting news on completion of FC2, still expected in february ? 1
tvcasualty Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 VERY EXCITED for this one!! And it's FREE!! Ever since I read "The Big Show" can't wait! Scripted campaigns in VR make this experience come alive!

Beazil Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 My buddy's father was part of the ground crew for Typhoons. I wonder if he was part of these operations. I'll have to ask him. Cool beans! Thanks for the update and the free campaign!
Guest deleted@219798 Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 What's happening with Flying Circus, if anything?

I hope they do -- Falaise Pocket would be nice and they don't really have to worry about making the map, or the Battle of the Bulge. Another option could be a Tank battle but there are 6 or 8 playable tanks in the installment in case TC1 was scarcely profitable which I hope wasn't. Thank you! (I also agree - although MC.200 and an Italian Trimotor for Desert Wings, and I-153 for Great Battles would be my preference... MC.200 would fit with Moscow - but it is more needed for Desert Wings). 2

Although Caen is a Victory in the end, it is first a fiasco with losses and destructions on a scale difficult to understand now...... First, an objective for DDay +1, it suffered almost 2 months of ground combat, artillery shelling and above all a Heavy Bombers raid ( and many lesser ...) which left the town destroyed 75%, thousand civilians dead , much more wounded and ruins impossible to cross to advance; The population was well aware that the RAF was fighting german to bring peace but ... they found the method disputable at least ! An opinion often expressed -usually low voice an unofficial - from France, to Belgian, to Netherland where it was said " our country shall never again be able to suffer another victory of Montgomery"...... I'm sorry to put a bitter drop in the CanCan Champagne but sometime it is something to remember, even in warGaming..... 1 1 3
Bonnot Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 PS : I'd been living (and studied in Caen University) some 20 years after , some scares were still visible and 20th anniversary was a strange mix of pride and sadness, of gratitude and reserved feelings from many of the participants- even moving for a younger foreigner ........ 2

The destruction of Caen was a huge tragedy for its inhabitants and I've given it quite a lot of space in the briefings and you'll see how the city will change after the bombing on July 7th. This screenshot from the announcement shows the morning of July 8th: 7
Bonnot Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Thanks @BlackSix, The Typhoon were probably the most accurate air to ground weapon and the less destructive for the civilians......In this case, german artillery was also responsible for a large part of destructions. The real shock came from the Heavies : RAF here and USAF in other locations. Postwar controversy were often harsh and did nothing to help, all we can do is probably to be fair in exposing situation and keep memory alive by all means, as such wargaming is often an excellent media to teach some History or just refresh memory. ?? 2

Well, it was originally projected as "coming later this summer"....of 2022 so, I'm not sure if "sooner than you think" is really valid ? But definitely looking forward to finally getting a new scripted USAAF campaign, "better late than never" ? Edited February 11, 2023 by DBFlyguy
Trooper117 Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 A week after this DD and only 2 pages of comments... hmmm.

Matsy_fr Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Any news of the campaign? Can't wait for it! Reading at the moment the book by the belgian Typhoon pilot Charles Demoulin," Mes oiseaux de deux"("My birds of fire") who was in flight school with Pierre Clostermann and ended up commanding his squadron, 609 if I remember correctly. I was gonna do a career on nomrandy with the tyffie but I'm waiting for the campaign!
