Orion_Omega Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Hi everyone, I searched this forum and others but I just can't find a solutiuon if there is any. When I play IL-2 with TrackIR while in cockpit view (F1) I can only move my head laterally (x, y, z). If I want to rotate my head I have to switch to "Camera: head-unlinked cockpit" (LAlt+F1) (yaw, pitch, roll). So out of the 6 DoF I can only use 3 DoF at a time with Il-2. (Please note, with Arma 3 I don't have this issue. All 6 DoF are availabe from the beginning.) In SP it's manageble, I switch between F1 and LAlt+F1. But in MP like Finish I can not switch to LAlt+F1, so I can not look around. I have trouble believing that people in MP won't use TrackIR to rotate their head and look around? Is it only possible to use 3 DoF of the 6 DoF simultaneously? As I said I look in the forums and YT. I tried different profiles like "RequiemFeb21". Changed USB ports. Deleted the startup.cfg. No effect. I have to switch between F1 and LAlt+F1 to get from one set of 3 DoFs to the other. Much appreciated if you coud tell me if this behavior is intended or if I'm missing something.
JG27*PapaFly Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 I use trackIR 5 and have never experienced your issue. I assume your go-to trackIR profile for il-2 has all axes set to active (checkboxes). What happens if you switch off the translation axes, leaving only the rotation axes active? Is the tracking flawless when you check it in trackIR via the camera? Do you always switch on trackIR first before starting the game? TrackIR can get stuck when you are too far away or not centered in front of the camera. Have you reinstalled trackIR, the game, or both? Is your trackIR connected directly or via a hub or second cable? Is there a conflict between game and trackIR key bindings? Like a key that toggles a trackIR function and at the same time some game function?
69th_Panp Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Your missing something 6dof is there in TIR and IL2 First I would look at WHAT profile you are using for IL2 and if all the axis are checked in the TIR software
Orion_Omega Posted January 31, 2023 Author Posted January 31, 2023 (edited) Thanks for your replies so far. I thought this can not be the normal behavior to only have 3 DoF at the same time. The profile I found and normally use looks like this: But it's the same with this profile: I do get reading on all 6 axes: - In Arma 3 there are no issues and all 6 axes are used simultaneously - The camera works without jittering - The camera is switched on before the game - I connected the camera to a hub and directly to the computer, no difference - Keybindings for TrackIR are on my throttle and have no other function in-game - When I Alt-Tab from Il-2 to Trackir I see data for all 6 axes I did not switched off axes in TrackIR and see what happens. I did not reinstall TrackIR or Il-2. TrackIR because I can see data on all 6 DoF and it works with Arma. Il-2 because it's big. But perhaps I should try this next. The hope still is that there is some setting within Il-2 that does the trick. Edited January 31, 2023 by Orion_Omega
Orion_Omega Posted January 31, 2023 Author Posted January 31, 2023 I installed Il-2 1946 and tried TrackIR on it: no issues. 6 DoF from the spot. So Arma 3 and 1946 work flawlessly with my TrackIR. Only BoX has this strange behavior of only 3 axes at a time. Seems like I have to plan in some time to save my BoX control settings, remove it completely and then redownload it all. Any ideas what could be the issue here are still welcome.
FlyingH Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Check your startup.cfg look for "old_trackir = " and check the value. Try to change it and test 0 or 1. It might be the culprit. Hope it helps.
Orion_Omega Posted February 1, 2023 Author Posted February 1, 2023 Thanks FlyingH. Tried it but didn't help. "0" was the default value and with "1" or "2" TrackIR wasn't recognised. I'll go for reinstallation now. Let's see what happens.
Orion_Omega Posted February 1, 2023 Author Posted February 1, 2023 Ok I found the culprit. Saved my inputs and then reinstalled everything. With the vanilla version TrackIR worked fine. Exchanged the vanilla inputs with my custom inputs: the odd behavior was back. Started to weed through the differences between vanilla and custom. For some reason these axes were assigned. I'm not sure when this happend, because joy0 is my throttle. Must be assinged that way for quite a while without me noticing it. I had no odd head movement when using my throttle. And since this was part of my "general" setting it was copied over to every custom setting when this feature was introduced. Removing these assignments gives me all 6 DoF. Thanks everyone for taking your time to help me. 1

BigNatho Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Just gotta say I had the exact same problem, thank you this was the only piece of information I could find on being stuck in 3DOF and it fixed everything
