The city, not the film.

Visiting next month for a few days, any recommendations on a decent beer hall? For real, not a troll post.

Naturally Hofbräuhaus and Nockherberg if you want to go full tourist.

Apart from that, just grab a beer to go anywhere you like and walk the streets. Munich claims it's a city, but it's really just a large village.

Make sure you visit Deutsches Museum.

Don't bring Arthur, as he'll mention the war.

If you want to meet people, tell them that Prussia rules, BMW sucks and that Bayern München is just a second-rate billionaire's moneylaundring-scheme.

Ah, Munich. The place where I spent 3 days years ago with a few of my Austrian friends who were there for a bowling tournament, so I had to spend two full days in a smoke-filled bowling alley. ? At least the beer was good!

?

Bowling with Austrians? Have you ever tried that Brems??

I’ve been to Munich once. I crossed a busy road and then found I was being pursued by a little old lady.

When she caught up with me, she told me I’d crossed the road in the wrong place….

Sounds about right!

Be glad you haven't been to Stuttgart. That place actually, really, is only useful as target-practise for Berlin.

When I lived in Munich for a few years I always prefered beer gardens, but they are only open in the summer.

If you want to go to a beer hall I think Augustiner Keller, Augustiner Bräustuben or Paulaner Bräuhaus are ok. I prefer their beer over the other beers served in Munich.

But in my opinion it's nicer to visit one of the smaller traditional Bavarian taverns (Wirtshaus). I haven't been in Munich for almost ten years so I've no idea which ones to recommend.

Munich has a lot to offer. I've lived in and around Munich for 14 years,  and I still work there. Beer and food are great,  but make sure you get to see the planes at the Deutsches Museum. Their downtown headquarters has a few planes on display:

Deutsches Museum

Their hangar in Oberschleißheim has more space and is completely focused on aviation.  There are MIGs, an F-86, F-4 Phantom, F-104 Starfighter, BF-109, ME-262, ME-163, HE-111, C-47 and a boatload of other interesting stuff:

If you're into plane spotting, there are excellent locations around Munich International Airport,  and some more historic planes (e.g. Lockheed Constellation):

Cold,  sparkling and tasty beer is critical for Bavarian physiology.  That's why we have a brewery inside Munich Airport:

At my age, I dream of that. The nationality matters not.

Haha, looks like you took the photo at the "Stachus". That underground station has been totally revamped a few years back.  There's great shopping, dining, drinking, and entertainment right around the corner.

Easy now.  I lived there almost two years, back in early 90's. For a young Romanian, first time outside that ?hole of a country, Stuttgart was a magic place. ?

Ah, okay! I figured someone would recognize the location. The photo was taken in 2003, so it's been a while. ?
