Game Won't Start . . .

Suddenly, IL-2 BoS won't start. All other games are fine. the 'loading Steam' box pops up for a fraction of a second, then vanishes then nothing more.

Currently baffled, I was working on skins today and had been going in and out of the files a lot, don't think I screwed anything up . . .

Have all the DLC games except Flying Circus.

Went to Steam to see about a reinstall, but could find no obvious buttons.

I do have setup exe, can I reinstall to the Steam folder, do I need to?

Any related thoughts appreciated.

First see if steam starts when you click on the steam.exe file. Should start updating if needed  ...

Steam starts from the steam exe. file and desktop icon.

Elite Dangerous lives in the same steamapps/common folder and has no problem.

If you bluntly reinstall you probably need to make some backups first to keep your game as it was.

Like startup.cfg, ACCData and input folder, swf (campaign progress), Career, and deinstall JSGME mods if you have installed any.

Missions folder, Campaigns folder maybe too?

Basically anything you changed.

BTW you could try to delete the updates folder first, IL2 then checks for errors..

Figured it out; Started uninstall from programs and features, Steam jumps up to run it, uninstalled / reinstalled through Steam, all good.

I had the same problem.

I have both the 1C version and the Steam version.

Was using Steam Great Battles last few months but it wouldn't start up a couple days ago; same symptoms as the OP cited: I'd try to start in Steam and it would back out of the process.  "Play" kept becoming visible again and again but it wouldn't proceed to open the game.

So I tried to play my 1C version of Battle of Stalingrad but it stopped about 1/3 of the way through the update and loading process.  I tried it a half dozen more times over the next two  days and couldn't get it to load or open,

Popular Online Opinion said uninstall and reinstall FC in Steam; which is easy because games you've bought and uninstalled still remain accessible in your Steam library and all you have to do is click reinstall and you're back in business.

Yesterday morning (on an impulse) I uninstalled and reinstalled in Steam.  That got it working but haste makes waste.  I forgot to save my skins and am having some difficulty getting them to show up in Steam.

My present PC is partitioned into a C and D drive.  I have il2 GB and FC on the C drive.

I have all my skins on the old C-drive from my previous gaming computer (died a year ago) and a docking bay makes them accessible as an E drive.

I've taken the DDS skin files from the E drive and put them in the proper skin folders of the C drive.  It looks like they are there but they aren't available when I open the game.

I'm researching uninstalling and reinstalling the 1C (non-Steam) version; gotta refresh on the procedure.  I know where my license keys are if I need them.  Maybe in the next couple days but I'd rather not U&R my original file if there's a way around it.

Meanwhile, anybody got any ideas on why it looks like my custom skins are in the proper IL2 FC Steam folders but they aren't showing up when I play the game in Steam?

Prosit!

ADNOTE: Right after I posted the above, I tried one more time to get the 1C version of FC to open up for me; it downloaded and worked fine this time.  No idea why it didn't work previously.  It was like that for a couple days and now it's working.  Now I have all my old skins if I fly 1C but still don't see them showing up in Steam.  (Which is weird because whether I enter the game via 1C or Steam, it opens Mixed Reality Portal and plays in Steam anyway.) Just, if I want my to fly old skins, I have to open it in 1C.  Whatever.  It's working again, thankfully.

I just had a major Battle of PC done. Fixes, for a while OK, Reistall for a while OK. The accidentally checked a harddisk seemingly OK first, again for errors ..

now it was no longer that. Replaced it, reset windows (10). Like windows in real life you need a window cleaner once in a while ..
